Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe breakfast and dinner is set menu instead of a buffet style.
The Japanese room is spacious and the outdoor onsen is nicer than many other hotels. We had a great time there. The shuttle bus is very convenient. The hotel is actually very big witha library, a table tennis room and and a shop.

AustraliaThe non smoking room has smoky smell so I have to open the window.
The outdoor obsen was very nicely decorated with beautiful trees and landscapes. The shared bathroom is very pleasant and clean. The reception is very friendly. They gave you nice bath clothes and cute baskets for your onsen experience. Will come back again.

EstoniaThe hotel needs renovation. It's not bad per se, but it is a bit run down and old. We booked it because of the price and I can't complain here, but for travellers that are a bit more picky you might want to look at something else.
Situated in a Kusatsu Onsen hot spring area, the hotel is a bit two sided. Overall, having our own hot spring onsen was insanely good, however it was not tattoo friendly (but they allowed to use it when the tattoos are covered or at night when there are less people without covering). The staff were super helpful and the services provided by the hotel include a bus that takes you to the centre and back (which is useful considering that it's a 15 minute walk from the centre up a mountain), bus terminal transfer, all necessary amenities, etc. For those confused how to get there - the easiest way is Ueno - Naganoharakusatsuguchi Kusatsu Limited Express from Tokyo followd by a 30 minute bus ride and a short walk from the bus station.

ThailandThe rooms are showing their age. Paint was worn off of the baseboards in many places, so easy to fix to give a better impression. Power went out in the whole town for about 30 minutes. The staff did not make any attempt to explain what was happening, guests had to go up to the check in desk to find out what was happening.
I did not rebook any meals and was told at checking it had to be arranged 24 hours in advance.

JapanWell, you can not improve rooms, so may be do more on a free-of-charge entertainment.
Good value for the money. Surprise that table tennis was at extra charge... Food is GREAT. Facility is old but OK. Rotemburo is really good. Water is very rich with minerals. That is the best point. Bus to the Kusatsu center but walking is also 10-15 minutes, quite enjoyable.

United StatesJapanese style room was dirty and did not include a private bath tub or shower.
Western style room was great! The tatami room had ample room for several futons, in addition to a couple beds outside the tatami room. Open concept with sliding doors was great for our group (6 people) so we can chat and hangout freely, and slide the doors shut at night for privacy. Breakfast was good. The outdoor onsen was really nice.

PortugalThe room's smell of tobacco was tolerable but the smell coming from the hallway was beyond that. Also the room seems quite old, this hotel would profit a lot even from a shallow renovation.
The staff was super friendly and the onsen was great.

TaiwanSince it's a traditional inn with futons, any noise on the floor travels across the entire floor and rings in your ears when you sleep on the futon. I'm not entirely sure, but it could also be from the floor above us. The breakfast staff were pretty indifferent, especially toward the younger local adult guests. But since the hospitality industry is still recovering from impacts from the pandemic such as labor shortage and surviving economically, I sorta understand, but was still surprised by the indifference when I thought Japan was known for its friendliness. Just may be not so friendly to locals or "fake" with locals? :(
The breakfast was good and used local ingredients. The hotel has free shuttle bus services to one of their other hotel near the Yubatake, the Kusatsu Onsen Daitokan, and also to the ski area. The outdoor onsen is nice, though small. We were lucky the rooms didn't reek of cigarette smoke as they do not seem to have nonsmooking rooms. Although reception doesn't really speak English, she tried her best to assist us and we communicated using the Google translate app. I thank her patience for communicating with foreign guests such as us who don't speak Japanese. Even the shuttle bus driver was friendly! Can't be said for the breakfast staff though.

JapanThe only downside for this resort is the ageing building. In our room some of the doors had small cracks / marks. This could have been repaired.
The resort location is very close to the center area. Also the resort provided shuttle bus service to all the major sightseeing places. The resort has all other amenities very good Onsen; gaming area; restaurant. The best part is the Staff they are very helpful (even though in English) and also guided us with all of our queries. I would say its money worth spending.

Brunei DarussalamWont recommend people to travel to the hotel on foot after hours of travel by bus/train/plane even though Google maps indicate it's just 10 minutes away from the Bus Terminal simply because it's a somewhat steep uphill location. Location from the nearest convenience store is a bit inconvenient due to the uphill roads. Wifi connection is a bit inconsistent for those who might want to do a bit of work on the computer.
A 10 minute walk (mostly uphill) from the Kusatsu Bus Terminal with helpful staff and a shuttle bus to the Yubatake town center for convenience. The included outdoor onsen is also a huge plus for those who want to immediately dive into relaxing in hot springs. The free to use yukata and geta sandals provided by the hotel is also a nice touch for those who want to really immerse in staying in an onsen village. The traditional Gunma-styled breakfast is also a great way to get into Gunma cuisine.
