Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandHotel is a bit dated and a bit far to walk from the station. Buffet is the same every day.
Close to a beautiful bridge and river, big room, comfortable beds, big onsen, friendly staff, free beer at dinner buffet. Comfortable yukatas of different colours to choose from.

Although the Hotel itself seems a bit old, the rooms and facilities were very nice and comfortable. There were Karaoke Rooms, Ping Pong and Biliard Tables and a Manga/Massage Chair room (reserveation for Karaoke/Ping Pong/Biliard was needed, but free). You even could reserve a private Onsen Bathroom for yourself/your group for free (30 min). And you had lots of things to eat at the Buffet, which had also free alcoholic beverages (I think).

New ZealandLocation seems far from the train station. We arrived late and had 20 minuted to have dinner. A staff told us to grab as much as we can and ended got kicked out and couldn't consume what was taken. Was very confuse with the situation. Could have atleast allow us to finish the meals and not waste them as staff was still cleaning up.
Great food choices.

United StatesPerhaps the breakfast could have some changes from day to day.
Buffet breakfast was good and filling. Only a few minutes walk from Kinugawa onsen station. Baths were spacious and good temperatures. Sauna and cold bath also. Room was quite spacious. From the hotel I was able to walk around the entire town of Kinugawa and see everything. It is also close to the observation point.

SingaporeThere is a public and private onsen. The water is very hot but what I didn't like was that the chlorine smell was strong and sting my eyes. Perhaps that is the hygiene requirement. The bath towel that was provided was too worn out and a little small. Good enough for Japanese size but too small for anyone bigger. Anyway, they should replace the bath towels, it's already thin and rough.
Good variety of food for breakfast and dinner. Dinner was spectacular with different seafood items. However, most of the dishes are the same day to day. Guests are given specific timing so that the crowd is manageable. However, don't be late. The buffet food will run out in the last 15mins. Guests can choose from different size yukata to wear. Thus, you can pack a little less clothes. Amenities are packed in a plastic bag for convenience. If the mattress is too thin, get another from the wardrobe and make your bed double mattress. It would be a 15mins walk from Kinugawaonsen station to the hotel, but it is worth renting a car.

JapanThe breakfast buffet was only 40 minutes. The room was okay so I didn't bother to take a photo but now I realize i should have taken a picture especially the aircon vent because it was so dusty. I think they don't clean well they only change sheets and a little bit of vacuuming. And also the smoking area is beside the lobby which is not so good because when you enter the hotel you can already smell the smoke from it.
They have a lot of free activities like ping pong swimming pool karaoke and eat all you can at breakfast. But in order to enjoy these activities you need to make a reservation in advance. They also have yukata which you can borrow for free My son also loved the manga corner. The Location was also nice It's near tobu world square and the bridge which is awesome.

JapanThe hotel itself is quite run down. You can see that in its hey-day it would have been quite luxurious! But today it is very tired and worn down. Dirty carpets, cracks in the walls and a musty smell. Our room had a bathroom and seperate toilet. But the smell in the toilet was terrible… much like an unclean public toilet. The floor in the toilet needs a good steam clean. The window near a power point leaked right onto the floor next to where our devices were charging. The balcony was dangerous. I stepped out and slipped on the slime build up. The escape ladder was rusted and worn out and the leaking water from the above balcony was really loud and annoying to sleep with. The air conditioning vents had a big build up of mould. It made me concerned about the effects on our lungs if we left it running all night. We were looking forward to using the outside pool. But although it was full of water… it is not open yet!!! So why not explain that in your terms And conditions on your booking platforms?
It is located in a beautiful part of Japan. Our room was big and had a great view of the mountain and a small waterfall. We could hear the river water flowing if we opened the windows. The dinner buffet had lots of variety, was delicious and the alcohol bar was included! Breakfast also had lots of food options. The onsen was great… it included a lovely outside onsen too. Lots of great after bath care products to use. Small gift shop was well stocked too. vending machines with noodles, drinks and ice creams. There was a game room with arcade games, karaoke rooms, billiards and table tennis (extra ¥).

United StatesOur breakfast buffet was part of the price and you have to specify your breakfast time when you check in. Done in one of two one hour sessions. Dinner buffet at hotel was expensive at JPY 3,300, luckily many good restaurants in the area.
It is an older hotel but still very popular among the Japanese. Buffet Breakfast was okay. Room was very clean and comfortable. Not too far from all the major sites. Private onsen room reservations available. Springtime in Nikko is great, it exceeded our expectations. You can easily spend the entire day visiting all the temples and shrines north of the Shinkyo bridge.

CanadaThe facilities are a bit old. Dim corridor lights, ageing wallpapers. Not a big deal tho.
Staffs are friendly and helpful. I was late due to some schedule change at the day check-in, and they prepared a bento box for me, though I had just missed the dinner time. The dinner and breakfast are great also. The room is clean and spacious. The Onsen is great. Overall I found this is a great-valued property. I was travelling alone so I could not try many facilities like the mahjong room, karaoke room, game room, etc. But I can see there are options and could be a great place to travel with friends and family.

JapanIt was very nice to enjoy Japanese hospitality in the room with green tea and small snacks, but the tea cups are plastic, it kind of spoils the experience.
Old fashion style hotel. There is lots of amenities like game room, karaoke, table tenis, billiard or manga room. The public onsen is nice, but unfortunately without view. Maybe private onsen has better view, because it is on the 2. floor, but I used it in the night, so I'm not sure.
