Bed and pillow where pretty hard so I couldn’t sleep well.

The hostel is actually a traditional Japanese house. This makes you feel at home. The host is friendly and helpful. He does his best to make you feel comfortable. My toe was cracked so I was in pain, he provided painkillers and bandages. We had nice conversations with other guests and made good friendships. Thank you to the host.

I loved every detail.

Real peak of how a traditional Japanese house is from the inside. I enjoyed my stay very much, shared stories with the owner who friendly joined me at the living room. Walkable distance to everything you want to see in Utsunomiya and then take the train to Nikko, perfect!

None worth mentioning considering how much you are paying.

The guesthouse is owned by a former backpacker so he understands how 2 cater to us travelers..from direction to recommendations and stories of his journeys of places you probably will never get to go. He is also cleans the place and takes the time to fold the little triangles on the toilet paper roll. The location is worth the stay alone considering how inexpensive it is & extremely close to the Utsunomiya train station. There is a supermarket that is 5 min walk away that closes at 10pm which is very convenient. Microwave & a small refrigerator are located in the lounge area if you need to store some snacks/drinks. The standup lockers provided are huge which is unheard of for a guesthouse/hostel in Japan. They can easily fit your standard carryon but not your huge checkin luggage or multi-day backpack made for trekking. The dormitory bedroom was very comfortable. Equipped with a A/C unit/heater so you can set the temperature if you like. Don't waste your time with hotels or other hostels. THIS IS THE SPOT!!!

Not to say very traditional but it is definitely a rare opportunity to get to stay in a Japanese house and experience how normal Japanese live in their daily lives. The place is really clean and comfy. Most importantly , the owner is very friendly and approachable , being very helpful and kind ! He shares a lot of travel tips and recommended spots that only the local will know.

A small hostel run by a wonderful, helpful host who is happy to chat and give recommendations and sightseeing information. The location is fantastic, just a few minutes' walk from train station and very close to some famous gyoza, too. Great WI-FI. I would definitely recommend it to anyone going to Utsunomiya.

I actually overslept a little, the bed is seriously comfy :D (There's actually nothing I didn't like)

I think this was the most comfortable bed that I have experienced in Japan, hotels and ryokans included... I don't know why, but I really had the best sleep of my whole trip. The location is great, just next to the station, and the owner is happu to offer some suggestions of were to eat and what to visit on your next days. I will definetly come back if I have the chance :)

There is a curfew, which was fine for me for this one night, but that could be a problem for others.

The owner was very nice and helpful. He explained all about the whereabouts and what to do around Utsunomya. I had not planned for anything, so that was of great help. Everything was clean and convenient.

Amazing location!!! Only 3 min walk from JR utsunomiya station. And japanese home style facilities such as floor, bathroom and shower etc. So authentic japanese classic! It s really an amazing option to the travellers who wants to experience real japanese daily home lifestyle. And the host was so supportive and informative to the guests. Very recommendable !

Super friendly owner, an impeccably clean and well furnished house. Decorated in a very traditional, simple Japanese style. The beds were so comfortable and the whole place smelled nice.

Not criticising, but be aware that this is a traditional guest house in an old building (not a European style hostel). Traditional, old bathroom and furniture, and only a little bit English. Its worth it to have a Translation app and spend the time to connect to get a unique experience.

Very close to the bus and train station, only 5 min walk, yet it is a very quiet area. Small, only 1 male and 1 female dorm, quiet. A very friendly host who has incredible tips on what to do and the background of sights of the area and elsewhere. Utsunomiya offers quite a few things to see, which are not overcrowded.

The toilet on the second floor near the rooms didn't have a bidet, but there was a newer toilet on the first floor.

It was convenient to the station and the host was very welcoming. The house was very clean and my bed was comfortable.
