Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceThere is only one shower for everyone. I don't know if there is sometimes a line to take it, there was none when I took it. But even if there is written "jacuzzi/bath" in the description of the hotel (which I interpreted as onsen but it wasn't), you can't really take a bath because others will be waiting for you.
The hotel is located right next to the train station. You will have to worry if you need to take an early train or bus. Many tourist locations are also right next to it like the Nebuta museum, A-Factory or the bridge. The room has the perfect size for your luggage, a futon and a desk. The owners seem very nice.

United StatesThe location is really nice, this house is small and quaint, a quiet, peaceful spot in Utsunomiya. The room is a mixed dormitory and beds were comfy, no claustrophobic capsule style hotel here! The host was incredibly kind and thoughtful, giving information about the area and providing contact in case of emergency or other issues. It was a wonderful stay, I truly hope to visit again!

SingaporeAs others have already stated in their reviews, the place can be rather small. Being limited to use the bathroom for 20 minutes and having to check if the other guests are using it can also be difficult to get used to. (For the record, I never had any trouble using the bathroom despite having this arrangement) But if you made your booking at Iroha Ryokan after reading all that, then it should not be a problem at all.
The location's great, and the owner is very helpful as well. We got caught in the rain and our shoes got wet as a result, and after explaining the situation, she suggested to stuff the shoes with newspaper and let them dry overnight with the air-con set to Dry mode, even providing the old newspapers for us to do so. Needless to say, I am very grateful for the help that we got from her. Compared to other accommodations, the bathroom is also really big. If you're traveling on a budget and don't mind lacking a few amenities like having a private toilet while doing so, it's actually great.

GermanyOnly 1 shower for 8 rooms. 1 toilet per floor (4 rooms) was ok. - it's not a negative point, just has to be mentioned. No power outlet in the room. For one night i used the power bank, so it didn't matter for me.
Very kind host :-) Very clean accomodation! Covid seems to be still a big thing here (Not only in this accomodation, but in the entire area)., so it's one more reason that the accomodation is kept very clean. You get towels, green tea, razor etc. Very close to the train station.

CanadaIf you require an elevator, don't stay here as it is stairs only to the 2nd and 3rd floors. This is more of a nitpick, but the 'lobby' area is incredibly small, and it can be very awkward trying to get by people who are checking in/out for the day. The shower area is also connected to the lobby, and while I never had this problem, having one shower to share in a hotel with 12(?) rooms can probably get pretty tricky.
The best selling point is the location. You can see Aomori Station from the doorstep, and you are walking distance to the main shopping street, fish markets, Nebuta Festival Museum, etc. Room was clean, and the lady running the whole thing was extremely friendly. Really nice and well kept tatami room.

Indonesiaonly 1 bathroom and only staircase (no lift) although its not an issue for me since I travel light and most ryokan has no lift.
Hotel is right in front of station and spacious room and very clean. Wifi internet available. Wide shared bathroom with washing machine. The owner is very kind and stayed up late to help me check in late. Also thanks for the chocolates. Hope to stay there again when i visit Aomori again.

GermanyThe walls are rather thin and I could hear the other guests as well as the when the washroom was being used. I suggest wearing earplugs if you're sensitive to sounds.
The ryokan is close to the station, the hosts were really nice, and I had the fortune of being on the same floor as the toilets and washroom so it was very convenient for me. The room I stayed in was also really nice and spacious (for the price).

NetherlandsShared bathroom and toilet with annoying other guests. Of course the property can't do much about other guests though.
Really nice stay! Traditional Japanese bedroom, shared toilet and bathroom. The host was very friendly. I received a yukata for use and a can full of tea, which was amazing after a long travel day. I would highly recommend this place because it's so much better than a hotel (especially experience wise).

AustraliaThere were quite a few stairs as it is an older Ryokan. There was a big language barrier with the host. However she is more than happy to communicate through translation apps and had many signs written around the building with instructions to follow.
I loved the accessibility to the station. The place was very clean and well kept for an older Ryokan. The host was lovely and more than accommodating.

United StatesWalls are a bit thin and bathrooms and shower are shared with other guests, same with sinks in common area if you're okay with that. Room also only had 1 extension outlet. Not much space if traveling with large sized luggage either.
The proprietor was very nice and accommodating. Value for the stay is really good and location is pretty good too.
