Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanI had a smoking room, and there were definitely some spots where the cigarette staining was visible. Also after showering and leaving the bathroom with some steam I feel the cigarette smells started to come up again... nothing unbearable and if you get a non-smoking room or don't mind the smell, I'm sure it wont be a problem :)
Very big room, lots of amenities. Whole place smells slightly like Shea butter which is great. Close to a cute little park and had free drinks and sweets. There's a free foot spa but since I only stayed one night I wasn't able to go, still looks really good and is open 24/7 I believe Staff was also very nice :D

United States2/3 of our rooms’ a/c didn’t work too well. Hallways and elevator were cramped so we had to make 2-3 elevator runs to get our family upstairs or reverse. Hotel was posh in a way that was nice for sure but didn’t appeal to us. Cash only was less convenient.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Free snacks and drinks in the lobby 24 hours was great. Room was clean with ample space and many cleaning options (soaps, etc). Great location for Motomachi, Chinatown, Harbor View Park, and Yamashita Park.

SpainArriving here in the middle of the night if you don't speak Japanese is awful. When I showed up, the receptionist didn't speak English, and he gave me a WiFi password that didn't work. (There was a pile of printed passwords at reception, and the following day i realised that the printer was faulty so wasn't correctly showing the password.) I couldn't communicate with him at all, and he had some weird device (not a mobile phone) he used to translate questions he had that I either didn't understand or couldn't reply to as I had no Internet access. He wanted payment in cash, not card, but i didn't have enough yen. I desperately wanted water, but after I'd mimed my need umpteen times to get the message across, he took me outside to a vending machine. I indicated I had no change, but instead of him using the translator to say he'd buy the water and add it to the bill, he wasn't interested. I was desperately thirsty but he wasn't giing to help. I discovered there was a small bottle of water in the room, nowhere near enough for me. He saw me struggling with my broken case but barely helped at all. When I went out next day to seek water, the day receptionist asked me to leave my key. When I returned late, I rang the bell at reception and waited. There was no response. I banged on the door and waited. No response. I shouted and waited. No response. I went through that for about 10 minutes before a receptionist turned up. After that, I insisted I was taking my key with me.
I alternately loathed and loved this place. The positive things are it's close to cruise terminals, near metro, shops, cafes and restaurants. The room is a good size, and the bathroom/wash basin area offer a wider range of toiletries than I've seen in any hotel, even 5-star ones worldwide. The options are truly amazing. Coffee, soup and sweets are available free of charge in the reception area.

JapanThe hotel was a lot fancier than I was expecting for the price! The room was huge, the view from the footbath was nice, and all the little extras made me feel very pampered.

AustraliaNo negatives at all.
We were able to leave our luggage when we were 4hrs early. The staff linvited us in before check-in, as it was raining. Thankyou. Staff didn't speak english, but were patient In helping us understand. Small spaces, but decor was nicely done. Atmosphere was very pleasant. A lovely touch to have coffee, tea and cakes available near reception. Relaxing music. Room amenities were excellent, with lovely hair and body products included. Proximity to shopping, restaurants, attractions, and parks, and public transport is great.
