Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

IrelandLocation wasn't great with not many food areas close. They could donqith giving it a deep clean.
It was a unique experience that I highly recommended to anyone coming to Japan. The accommodation was old and traditional but still had electricity and lovely showers.

CanadaNot enough showers, and the toilet in my room had a bad odor. M'y 40L backpack was too big for the Locker that we are given, so I had to keep it with me all day long. The washing machine/dryer didn't do a good job on m'y laundry, so you're better off going somewhere else.
The location was great! Next to the inversible railway museum, close to umekoji station if the san'in line and a 15 minutes walk to Kyoto station. I only had to share the bedroom with 3 strangers, so it was Véry quiet. Confort was adequate for the price.

United KingdomThe self check in sort of works but it is very impersonal. It felt a bit less secure as I felt anybody could get in ,so didn't leave anything valuable.
The building is old and feels truly Japanese with a nice atmosphere .It was easy to drop off my bag . Also close to a nice park . Pizza restaurant right outside.and 7 eleven nearby too.

RomaniaThe capsule bed was a little bit too tiny even for me (I have stayed in other capsule hostels and they have a lot of space, even the entrance was not big enough) . But overall it is a good value for the money.
I liked the fact that it was in an old traditional Japanese house, loved the library and the tatami living room, the free tea and coffee. The bike was cheap and a big bonus. The location is good, the staff (even if it is self check in) was nice and they tried to help me in the morning when we met. You also get free porridge for breakfast, nothing fancy.

ArgentinaThe noise inside the house (you can hear everything)
I dont understand why other reviews are so negative. The place is nice and quite spacious compared to other hostels I've been to. The stay was comfortable and for a very good price.

ThailandBecause it was an old house, the wall is thin when you open or close the door you have to be very quiet
The hostel is a 100+years old house which is the best experience for someone who wanna try living in the place from the past. The interior and exterior of the building is legend

GreeceUnfortunately along with the traditional style of the building came also the noise, as every step you took was easily heard by your neighbours next door and not only. The floors were very squeaky but it wasn't that big of a problem honestly. The most important concern though, was the dust that was on the bed furniture and it needed attention.
We loved the traditional style of the hotel. The atmosphere was very warm and inviting and the location was pretty good as well. Considerably close to the station. We weren't greeted by any of the stuff but an envelope was waiting for us right beside the main entrance, with directions and information. We found the whole process to be convenient and easy to follow. At the small lobby you could find some tea, towels, toothbrushes and a beautiful library. All in all it was a very pleasant stay! ☺️

United States of AmericaThere are bikes for rent, but if you use them for the nearby bath houses or groceries, you can use them for free. The staff were incredibly nice when I talked to them, though they weren't around in person often due to their change in staffing hours.

FinlandThe insulation was very poor. We had to blast the heater on full blast due to the cold air coming through the floor boards and the window cracks.
Good price and very nice staff!! The building itself is super cool being so old.

FranceI didn't quite like the fact we had to get out in the freezing cold to go to the toilet, it must be nice in summer, but not really in winter... The stairs were also a bit narrow due to the building age and thus, it was difficult to bring suitcases up and down.
I liked the ambiance, very cozy and traditional ; as well as the services available. It was also a self check-in quite easy to understand and there was no curfew so we could do our visits and eating out without worrying about not being in our room on time

United KingdomThe wifi could lag at times inconsistently. The stairs to go up are very steep - not an issue for me but it would be for some people or with large suitcases rather than a backpack. The listing could give more warning about that.
The location was convenient for the bus to gion and only 10 minutes walk from the train station next to the railway museum. The old building was traditional which was part of the experience. It was still comfortable as the ac/heating unit worker well (I was there in January). The shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water.

I loved to experience the traditional feel. It was extremely easy to access the property and the rooms. The amenities are all located at the main building. I stayed in the single room and it was very comfortable. I don’t think i’d enjoy it quite as much if i stayed in the quad like my friend did. The staff was amazing. After a couple days of not putting the indoor sandals back correctly i noticed they were placing it a certain way. I started to fix my habits of doing it backwards
