The towels in the room were our only disappointment - especially the bath towels. They were very small and thin. (I’m 5’1”, 110 pounds. My husband is 5’5” and also on the smaller side.)

The room was small and poorly set up. There was a love seat but not comfortable and its location made it hard to move around ,2 nice chairs would have been better. The traditional rooms with bedding on the floor were a lot bigger. We had a mattress on floor which gave it alittle height everything was new and well maintained great toilet regardless we enjoyed our stay

the hotel and its location were great .it’s the most important feature was it’s wonderful staff who helped us in every way. They personally took us to our room and showed us all the amenities they gave us our pajamas and kimonos for use in the onsen. they provided a shuttle if you reserve ahead from the train station the rooms were just refurbished and up to date the hotel is on the river just across from old town. Takayama is not to be missed. It’s small and easy to get around we liked it better than Kanazawa which is big and busy

It would be nice if check in was earlier than 3pm and check out was later than 10am. The staff will gladly keep your bags though while you go out and explore.

Stayed 1 night for the fall festival and the location couldn’t have been better with a beautiful view of the river from a corner room. Staff was amazing and shuttled us to and from the train station without an issue.

The general impression is the hotel is a bit focus on foreigner guests. The experience is still good, but you can tell it is not that traditional anymore. Some guests in the public onsen were not that respect the manner. One with large tatoo at the back and thigh, one entered the onsen without taking the shower first. The dinner menu was printed in multiple languages, which is maybe good for foreigner guests, but I missed the traditional vertical writing menu in Japanese.

What you can expect from a traditional japanese hotel. Detail-caring service, excellent dinner and breakfast, comfort and clean room. Location is perfect for explore the area.

It’s a perverse ryokan. Everything from greeting in the lobby, to the room, dinner, onsen, breakfast- all was perfect. In the heart of Talayama, very close to all sightseeings as morning market, shopping and cultural street, jinja. Nice Yutakas and pretty cute onsen and even two onsens for women. Inwent to massage to the second onsen and it was a very traditional nice onsen and I was there alone. Loved it and relaxing massage. Food was perfect and very regional. There was a festival in August and we enjoyed nice and peaceful atmosphere in the city. Hotel has a shop where they sell so many things- I was very impressed by this hotel.

Probably the white bread. We in Australia have so much variety of bread to select from. I do not eat white bread. Other than the food was outstanding.

The room itself was extremely clean and large. I personally, was glad to get back sleeping on a western bed. Both the dinner and breakfast were exceptional. The number of dishes at the dinner was wonderful, together with the taste and presentation of the food. We still talk about it today.

Just an amazing overall experience!! Excellent service from a throughly professional staff team. A visit to a traditional Japanese style hotel should be on every traveller’s bucket list.

Getting in and out of bath for a shower. I have some mobility issues with my back and left leg and struggled to get my legs over the high bath sides for a shower without anything solid to hold onto. With the wet surface there was a high risk I could of slipped over. A secure grab rail next to the bath would be very helpful

Nice view of the river, located near main attractions and shopping. Dinner is excellent, service is great too. Shuttle bus service is so helpful, hotel will pick you and send you to and from Takayama train station or bus centre if you let them know ahead of time.

The hotel, its staff and its location being across a bridge from the old town, are first rate.

The location was so good, the bubbling of the river and the sight of it was so serene. The free ride to and from Kawaguchiko Station was really helpful, and we were lucky enough to enjoy a mini-concert during our stay which was so fun to experience. The onsen was relaxing and stocked with good quality amenities. Staff was amazing, and extra thanks to the night shift staff who helped me book an express bus for the next day.

Individual western style beds are approx full size, so a bit cozy for us together. They could not be set next to each other.

Clean, comfortable, helpful staff who speak and understand English. Nice size room, balcony and view. They reached out to arrange pickup at the train station and brought us back when leaving. (We stayed in the Annex, did not have meals on site and did not use the onsen, so cannot comment on those.)

One staff member on the front desk wasn't very helpful, but a colleague politely stepped in and helped sort out our query. Although, could have been a language problem.

Most of the staff were very good, friendly and helpful. The hotel is right on the river and in a great position. Although when in your room sitting down, you cannot see the river. The onsen was really nice, clean and presented in the traditional way.
