We stayed upstairs and the way to the restroom and bathroom was long and cold. The parking lot was a bit difficult to find in the dark, a few minutes away from the accommodation.

There was a stove in the bedroom and heating mats for the beds, making the room very cosy. The bathroom was enjoyable, better than the usual guesthouse shower rooms.

The property is a lovely converted traditional japanese house located in a quiet neighbourhood, it gets a little chilly in the colder seasons but the host prepared proper heating in most rooms, there is even a heater in the changing room. The bed is also heated and comfortable. The nearest train station is within walking distance and limited express trains stops there, which is convenient because trains can be infrequent in this part of Japan. All in all, I have a very nice experience staying in this property and I hope to come back again somewhere in the future.

Location was a little far from station. But it’s just 10-15mins by foot. For the price and comfort, no complaints. Just need to be aware it’s a walk away from the train station.

Friendly staff. No hassle. All self service.

The kitchen, toilet and bathroom is not in the same building. I have to walk to the building right next to HESO Camp to use them.

Even though the place is a little bit remote, it is walkable from the street. Moreover, I could see the beautiful sky at night, with lots of stars, which you will never to see at the city.

Great location to visit Iya Valley (just need to catch the JR train a couple of stops to Oboke). Nice, traditional guesthouse 10 mins walk from town/train station. You can use bikes for free to ride into town (only 5 min ride to a big supermarket). Air-conditioning in the room and we also had a small balcony. Can use washing machine for free and we dried everything outside. Beds were fairly comfortable for Japanese style.

in the night the room was cold. There is no warm mode AC only oil heater (stinky and bad for health). However, in summer this is not an issue.

good location and nice staff. Staff speak some English too. I saw some grill probably for rent as well.

This is a very traditional Japanese house, and so if that's the experience you're after, then this is the place for you. It's a little out the way and can take a while to get there on foot, but the quiet area is very peaceful. The beds were comfortable, the dorms had privacy curtains on each bed. There was an honesty box with a number of snacks and drinks available if you needed food.

When the temperature dropped the house was colder inside than outside the residence. There are heaters in the rooms but they give off odorous fumes. They also could be dangerous if they failed and gave off carbon monoxide. Not useful at all. Use an electric heater like the one in the shower room vestibule for heating rooms please. The house contains a dormitory and three major rooms. We were lucky as there were very few other guests. If there were more than three or four others the toilet and shower room would be woefully inadequate. Also for the three major rooms upstairs anwinding narrow stairway must be taken to reach the bathroom at night. Access is not pleasant.

The old Japanese house was clean and located in a quiet country setting Loved the serenade of frogs on the evening. Kitchen was well set up with appliances, dishes and utensils. Staff at Heso Salon were friendly and responsive.

Very comfortable stay in an old Japanese house. My room was large and airy. The living room was also large and had two sofas. The kitchen was well stocked with all you need for cooking. The shower room was very clean and had an electric heater to use in the changing area. The owner of the guest house was very friendly. He gave me very useful advice on the weather for a trip I was taking in the mountains. The owner also runs a great restaurant near the guest house.

Highly recommended for travelers around Shikoku, this is a great spot to stay and organize day trips in the Iya area. If you stay there, make sure to try the restaurant / cafe Heso Salon as well ! Thank you so much, I hope to come back soon !

I absolutely loved my stay! The manager of the property was really friendly and informative, even when there's no staff on site (had to go to Heso salon to check in), it was all very easy and clear. The house itself is spacious, clean, and well-equipped. It could get as cold as 6 degrees but I had no problem falling asleep. Heaters and heating blankets were available. Ask about the co-working space if you need to work. I didn't want to leave but the journey must continue. Thank you so much!

The room we got on the upper floor had very bad insulation. When we arrived it was as cold as it was outside, about 9c, and dropped as low as 4c during the night. The room came with a heater, but it ran on kerosene which quickly filled up the room with fumes and had to be ventilated, which in turn makes the room cold again. Had to sleep with multiple layers of clothes.

Very nice staff and the house had all the ameneties you need. It's a 12 minute walk from the station, which has a group of restaurants with very friendly people. The parking is also fairly close. The bottom floor with the bunk beds and kitchen/shower room was warm.

no explanations in English for the washing machine and no dryer also there is no staff in the house but it is ok because I could do the check in in person at their restaurant (which I recommend btw)

almost everything: not too far from the station (10 minutes by walking), a lot of greenery around, it's an house so you feel at home, many facilities in the kitchen... also I booked a bed in the dormitory but ended up with a single room, which was a nice surprise ! and for the location : Awa-Ikeda is the starting point for many things in the valley so if you don't have a car like me, I think it is a good place to stay

There is only one toilet and one shower situated on first floor. So the walk is quite long if you are staying on second floor.

This place feels more like a share house, than a hostel. We enjoyed staying here so much that we even extended our stay. Train station is a max 10 min walk and you can use their bicycles for free. Kitchen is big and fully equipped and the communal space is very spacious with even space to hang our outside. Super lovely!

First, I went to check in at their restaurant (HESO SALON, which btw I highly recommend, I had dinner there), then I walked to the HESO CAMP (just 10 mins away on foot). It's a beautiful traditional Japanese house. I had a huge room to myself, it was perfectly clean and I slept like a baby. The innkeeper, whom I met a the restaurant) is very friendly, helpful and also speaks great English. Very positive experience, great value for money!
