Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

TaiwanIt may need to take a while to MRT station.
Staffs are so good and kind to take care of your needs. And explain enough details that you can live without the problem. This hotel, it's a kind of Japanese-style house, if you want a deep experience of Japanese culture. You can choose this one. Also, the staff is good at speaking english, if you are not good with Japanese. Communication in English will not have any obstacles. But this hotel is not located where you check-in. It will take a while to the second building. The main building is not really where you stay. But the main building has coffee service if you need it, and the coffee tasted good. And last point, the second building is 100 years old, so you can really have a deep experience with Japanese culture. Also. it is near the famous location such as Kiyomizu-dera, and Yasaka Shrine. So you can take a walk there~.

AustraliaSlightly run down given the age of the house but that what you'd expect from a nice older home.
Incredible location and building, and that is what you pay for. Very charming old Japanese house

South KoreaThere was nothing I didn’t like about the property.
It’s very tradition and in a really good location in Gion. I don’t feel like it was far from anything. It was quiet and comfortable and a nice place to come back to after a long day out in Kyoto heat!

TaiwanIf I had a bigger luggage, I might not be able to fully open it in the western style single room. lol
The guesthouse is close to the main Gion area and also close enough to the entrance where you begin to walk up to Kiyomizu-dera and Kodai-ji too. Yet it is in a very quiet neighborhood and you are living in a traditional Japanese home with wooden floors and stairs. The staff will point you to a local supermarket close-by and there are convenience stores on the main road. Perfect for backpackers and solo or couple travelers that want to experience how some locals may live.

South KoreaI couldn't understand why I should check in at Gojo guest house, not Gojo Annex. It was 8-10 minutes from Gojo Annex by walk so I thought it was not efficient. And after check-in, I couldn't meet other staff again at Gojo Annex. But I had no issue, it was comfortable without staff.
You can go to many places from this place by work. The location is not bad and a bus stop is located within 5 minutes. The place is a very old house, not renovated at all. But I recommend Gojo Annex. Value for money.

United KingdomI have stayed at Gojo Guesthouse several times before and have always returned whenever passing through Kyoto, whether to stay or just for a catch-up with the friendly staff. This was my first time staying at the annex and I was very pleased with my room. The A/C was much appreciated in August and it was wonderful to cook my own breakfast in the kitchen each morning, occasionally exchanging an 'ohayo' with staff or other guests. The location is fantastic for sightseeing while far enough from the main road for a good night's sleep, and for travel further afield you can pick up a rental bike from the cafe. I can't recommene Gojo enough!

JapanThere are only toilets and showers in the basement, so you have to climb the stairs a lot if you stay on the first or second floor. The area is quiet, but it’s easy to hear noise from other rooms. It’s not a problem if other guests are considerate and you use ear plugs when sleeping. If someone uses the outside smoking area by the front door, the smell comes through to the first floor. Water in the shower and sink does not run hot enough - it must be very cold to stay in the middle of winter. It was perfect for me but some people might find the bed (Western-style) too hard. I tried to contact the guesthouse staff by phone and it was a confusing process. No one would pick up when I called the annex’s number. I finally reached them by calling the cafe’s number (connected to the main guesthouse).
Charming traditional Japanese house, loved the Showa retro style. Excellent location and access to city buses. Friendly staff who give really nice recommendations for the area. Accommodating if you need to check-in late. The staff stay in the guesthouse too so there is always someone to go to if you need anything. Very clean.

TaiwanVery bad insulation, in this winter season the room was really cold and even with blankets and a heater we were freezing at night, a real challenge to go the toilet downstairs as well.
In the center of Gion, very cute streets. The staff is charming and gave us good recommendation. Traditional Japanese style room very pretty. Really nice kitchen with lot of ustensiles.
