Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaIt's my favourite hostel in Japan so far! It is small but cozy. The Japanese futons are nice. The kitchen has everything that you could need. The sleeping cabins are very big! Kosei, the host is friendly and helpful. Staying here feels more like living with your friends rather than staying in a hostel with strangers. A convenience store is right behind it and the train station and the supermarket are just 10 min by foot. I would definitely come back!

NetherlandsThe door to the bedroom could shake during the night because of the wind or when other doors opened/closed, which made quite some noise. Luckily it was not busy, so we would just leave the door open.
The hostel is beautifully restored and has all the necessary stuff. It felt more as a home than as a hostel. Though it’s located in a small town, you can access the train very easily and you can explore around Mount Fuji. The owner is truly amazing and so kind. I would definitely recommend this hostel!

This was by far my favourite stay on my Japan trip. The hostel is incredibly comfortable and peaceful located in a small, quiet village. The owners are very kind and easy to communicate with. I was welcomed by the owner’s wife, who was very kind and spoke English well, so it was easy to communicate even though I don’t speak any Japanese. I got clear instructions on how to check in, what to do in the area, etc. What really stood out is how incredibly clean the hostel was. The bathrooms were the cleanest I have ever seen, as was the kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked with rice, tea, sauces available for use. The convenience store is literally next to the hostel, so it was also easy to buy groceries and there was a microwave, rice cooker, hob and kettle all available in the hostel. The shower was great (amazing water pressure) and they had towels, as well as other cosmetic products available at the reception. The beds were large and comfortable and the room was a good size. Overall, I could not have imagined a better stay and for the price, it was definitely worth it. I only wish I could have stayed longer! I highly recommend this hostel!

GermanySadly there is not much to do around the hostel, except going to Shizuoka or Fuji in 30 minutes distance.
Very nice owner and took so good care of us! The house is absolutely new and the design is one of the most amazing we saw! Very clean, modern and everything you need. Train station 10 minutes walking distance, Family mart around the corner.

MalaysiaI think there was nothing i didn't like about this guesthouse
A cozy guesthouse, aesthetically pleasing.the woods maybe using pine wood which make it like a muji concept house. A fully equipped guesthouse where u can use the kitchenette except that u have to bring your own ingredients on what to cook. There is also washing machine, dryer, 2 bathrooms which the space isn't so compact so that u can move around freely, not touching the wall😅. I love the location. Situated on a quiet housing area, just nearby the konbini, train station and Aeon. Coming from trip at Tokyo, this is what we need. A serene and peaceful stay. The owners also kind husband and wife, with cute daughter. Overall , it was a homely stay here.love it.

CanadaThe only minor inconvenience is that the location is 700 meters away from the nearest station which is a little far with heavy backpacks, but it wasn’t too bad.
The property is cute, well-designed, recently renovated, impeccably clean and functional. There are only three rooms with bunks available in the house, but the rooms are rather spacious compared to most we have stayed in in Japan. The bunks were sturdy and well made and the futon was more comfortable than most we’ve slept on. The air-con in the room is much needed in Japanese summers and the kitchen, although small, is good enough for prepping quick meals and is impeccably clean like the rest of the property. The showers are also fantastic and the bathrooms are great too. A wonderful place to stay overall. The owner, Kosei, is also very kind, welcoming, and a lovely person to deal with.

United States-
We stayed in two of the rooms (we had to switch at a certain point because we decided to extend our stay) and both were clean and well crafted. The owner did a really nice job designing the hostel. It was close to the train! It's a small town so there was only a few things that we really needed to walk to. At the gelato shop by the train station there are electric bike rentals. We took them all the way down to Miho no Matsubara and back! If you walk past the train line and towards the water you can access a path along the coast and can see the tetrapods and surfers- amazing! Definitely go to the restaurants recommended by the hosts. We had some really nice encounters and meals. Very safe- we biked home past dark from Miho no Matsubara all the way back to Kambara and didn't have any problems.

United StatesIt'd maybe be nice if the bunks weren't just bare, untreated wood, but that may be the "vibe" the owner is aiming for.
The location is charming and the owner was quite friendly. Location is not too far from the station. It felt very clean overall, and though the bunks are the sort of handmade type you often see at hostels, they were a good size and the futons were comfortable
