Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

ItalyThe street to arrive to the villa (and the parking is very narrow. Pay attention! I decided to park in the surroundings where you can find many other possibilities for free.
The villa is a very nice place and the room has all you need.

United KingdomThe narrow drive up the hill to the property!
There is a pool in the garden and our room had a good sitting out area. The property is some way from the city centre but there is a bus service. We did not take the breakfast option.

SwedenPaying for the coffee capsules (never had to pay before in Italy). We also had some ventilation issues during the night (27 degrees - too hot for a Swede), but since the staff leave the building in the evenings we never got around to sort it out. Instead we just switched off the electricity from the fuse board at the entrance of the room.
Beauuutiful villa, great service and a pretty garden. Loved the room, the pool, the quiet location. Free parking, easy to walk into town (20 minutes). Used the wellness area which filled the purpose :)

ItalyAs many have noted, you need to be a confident driver to access the property as the road is very narrow and cobblestoned, and I don't recommend that big SUVs try--I would park in the University area above the property and just walk in a bit. They did a great job marking the roads to get there though.
We loved the size of our little apartment/studio, and wished we could have enjoyed the balcony access (sadly it rained the entire time there). It was large, well-appointed, and everything in the kitchen was stainless steel and in great condition. The staff, from booking to departure, were all wonderful. We enjoyed the wellness area too, though it wasn't cheap (80 euro for 2 hours). The sauna and steam rooms were great, but the jacuzzi pool was a bit cool for our taste. We also loved the private parking and secure gate access, and that the property was outside the main city--it was very quiet. Also, the a/c worked great, and we appreciated them being pet-friendly. We didn't try the pool, but it looked very clean and inviting. The walk wasn't hard back from Trieste, so if you are fit, don't worry--it was beautiful and fun.

RomaniaThe breakfast isn't buffet-style, but considering the setting, it's understandable. At 15 euros per person, it might seem a bit pricey, especially if there's no room for indulging, but perhaps the experience and ambiance make up for it.
The main advantage of the villa is that it has its own parking which is a rarity in Trieste. But be prepared to drive on a very steep and narrow street to arrive at the villa. The villa is situated in a tranquil area, surrounded by lush gardens and trees, making it a peaceful retreat.

IrelandThe bathrooms could be updated. But was still very functional & spotlessly clean.
We loved Villa Bottacin because it was a little haven away from the city, but very easy to get from there to all main attractions using public transport. The pool was open during our stay May 9-12, so it was lovely to have a swim & relax in garden after a day sightseeing. While the road up is very narrow & steep with cobblestones it is still accessible for most people.

RomaniaIt’s a beautiful location, but the drive up the hill is steep and narrow - so make sure you’re aware of that if you’re coming by car.
The hotel, as well as the city of Trieste are just enchanting. Beatrice at reception gave us an umbrella and the best restaurant recommendations (try Eataly)! The gentleman who cooked breakfast was cheerful and made us the best scrambled eggs and coffee. Parking free on the premises is a big plus.

ItalyThe interiors were plain and without any coherence with the beauty of the building. Modern, clean, comfortable but absent of the presence of the history of the place.

PolandYes the road to the property is narrow and steep. BUT… we have a large SUV and were able to drive up.
Location - walking distance to downtown Trieste and Old Town Facilities- large studio with kitchenette and private bathroom Staff-very pleasant and helpful staff who speaks English Access-the property (including parking) is gated and surrounded by a high wall. The gate can only be opened from the inside so it is very safe. As far as finding the property we had no problem: we used WAZE which led us right to the gate and in addition the Villa provided detailed instructions and a map. Parking-free and onsite, something very rare in Trieste We never tried the breakfast so can’t comment on that The description states a minimum of three nights stay. I asked if they would accept a two night reservation and they agreed so it is worth to ask.

CanadaFelt it was overpriced for time of the year...end of season...pool closed. We had been renting apartments past 5 weeks in Croatia and Slovenia.....paid less many times for newer places in great locations (even Dubrovnik).
Gorgeous property.....superior suite was very spacious and came with an oversized balcony. Walking distance to a mall, centre of town, the Port and restaurants was OK if you are inclined to walk. If you're not, this property might be bit out of the way.

HungaryStaff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is excellent. Location is up on a hill, in a silent and green area. It is close to the city center, you can walk down to the Harbour on the very charming V.le Venti Settembre (a street full of restaurants gelaterias and cinemas) in 20 minutes - although last part back to the Villa is quite steep so it is hard when you already tired.. :) Also there are two buses stopping nearby any you can use #6 straight to Miramare Castello
