Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe property is dated and should be refurbished . The lobby staff could have been a bit more welcoming . They were courteous but very business like . A little affect would cement a warmer connection between guests and staff . When you’re staying there one week, it makes a difference. What was missing for us were some friendly exchanges to feel More welcomed.
Location was excellent. Breakfast was excellent

United StatesThe rooms are small and the rooms facing the lake are even smaller(somewhat claustrophobic), the beds are hard as a rock and very uncomfortable! The front desk kindly arranged to have a mattress topper added that was a little improvement. If you are facing the street, it can be very noisy - day or night. The bathroom lighting was very dim, one could hardly shave or put on makeup. The hair dryer was tucked in a tight corner of the bathroom that made using it awkward and difficult. There was a leak from the shower, which we reported to the front desk. Breakfast was fine, but not fantastic as some other 4* hotels have offered
The location of the the hotel was great, it's right next to the Menaggio ferry terminal which is very convenient. It is also an easy walk to restaurants and the main square. The common spaces in the hotel were truly beautiful- the lobby, dining room, and the outside patio overlooking the lake. The pool was heated and we had the opportunity to swim.

AustraliaRooms are a little dates but I overheard they are actually about to close for renovations to update which is good to hear. Being told to not sit at a 6 person table at breakfast when there were 30 other tables free would also have been nice. One waiter did say this, and the audacity I was shocked. But that's Italy for you. Other than that my stay here was perfect.
This was quite the spot! While it is a little bit pricey given the room decor – you are in Lake Como and the views were worth it. I arrived at midnight so there were minimal staff around, so had to wait a bit after travelling 8 hours via train to check in - I picked this spot specifically because it was close to the ferry port which was so great, and an easy 4 min walk into Menaggio town was great. After spending the last 5 days hiking in the dolomites an easy stress free stay was what I was after. As a solo traveller it was a great place and felt safe. I booked a lake view room so it was everything I could of asked for, for the classic Lake Como view.

CanadaAs noted above, the carpeting of the rooms was disappointing in that It was clearly shabby rather worn out and occasionally spotty! The bathroom was very tight in space to the point of great discomfort. Some of its fixtures such as air-fan were dysfunctional and useless and couldn't be repaired. Dame applied to the Safe. Water Taps were also apparently outdated unlike the shower and waterflushing sysyem that were in very good condition! I'd say the Bathroom followed by carpeting were clearly behind the rest of the facility's excellence.
Location is outstanding. View and proximity to transportation was the best for both Bus & Ferry. Interior decoration was outstanding; beautiful and maintained the essence of the era it was built in even though a few items were quite shabby and iccasionally some figurines and statuettes were oddly modern. Staff was excellent everywhere especially Restaurant except for only one blonde lady at the reception (she repeatedly gave us wrong Info Re# transportation schedule!) Quality of food was great. Sleep quality was very good with the exception of the AC which could not be properly set up (either too cold or too warm). Mattress and pillow quality was excellent and inducive to relaxation and comfort. Despite the excellence of the food quality, the Chef probably needs to be less innovative! When one orders a Tiramisu -for example- one expects a particular dessert, not quite a modified looking and tasting alternative even though it might taste good but still not what you expected.

United StatesThe parking at the hotel is limited and can be crowded, and the elevator to the rooms is small and slow. The room that we chose had two twin beds and was on the small side, as was the bathroom. The room decor was a bit dated, but still comfortable.
The beautiful hotel, pool and grounds are on Lake Como, which is spectacular! The air conditioning in the room was excellent. The breakfast (the only meal that we had at the hotel) was varied and delicious. The staff was courteous and efficient. The ferry and the town of Menaggio are both within short walking distance (the ferry is basically right next door!) There is a little corner store nearby to buy sundries, and the bus stop is right in front of the hotel (we took the bus three or four stops to visit Villa Carlotta!)

SwitzerlandHowever......the beds we had was a joke! Me and my friend had both a single bed, since there weren't two double beds. But the beds were so small and had an old woolen blanket and very old looking bedspread, which made the room look so outdated! Also the rest of the room was looking like it really needs an update.
The hotel is beautifully located on the water with a great pool and nice outside seating area, next to the ferry. All super easy accesable and very friendly and helpfull staff.

United Arab EmiratesThe room was small. Worse was the very tiny bathroom and having to step over the toilet to get into the shower!! I asked for a room change on the first day and it was never organised for us despite another guest being given a different room two days after I had asked!
The location was central to everything and situated next to lake Como so the views were spectacular

United StatesThe one thing I was not thrilled with was in front of the patio of our room there was a big ledge filled with rocks. It took away from the lake view and there were cigarette butts in it. After a day or two that did get cleaned. The bathrooms are extremely dark. New lighting is necessary for the bathroom and new hair dryers that you can use anywhere in the room would be helpful. They are attached to the wall in the bathroom so you must blow your hair in there. Also, the wallpaper needs to be updated in the room because you can see it is incredibly old and it is pulling away at the seams. The mattress was also rock hard. I had an incident with one of the waiters. He was very rude and threw down a plate of food on the table. I did report him and later I spoke with him and said let's start again. I think we had a communication problem, and he was frustrated. The Maitre'd in the restaurant needs to take a cue from his wait staff to be friendly and to smile more. He is too uptight. Everyone else was awesome, especially Julia!!!!! The staff at the front desk were very helpful too.
The old-world charm of the hotel is beautiful. We loved having the lake view with a spacious patio. Our room was very spacious, and housekeeping kept it exceptionally clean! The bar area and lounge are beautiful places to sit. Outside is spectacular by the pool with a stunning view of the lake and mountains. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the patio were wonderful. There were plenty of choices for breakfast and lattes and cappuccinos were delicious. The ferry dock was right next to the hotel which made it so easy for transportation. The walk into the village was a short one and there were several wonderful restaurants to dine in.
