Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesRooms could use a redo. Bathroom a bit small. Need robes in room.
I previously stayed at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo and I realize it would be very unfair to compare this hotel with that one. Hotel was ok, not great. Needs some TLC and bathroom was quite small. The staff was very nice.

United Arab EmiratesThe room was small. Worse was the very tiny bathroom and having to step over the toilet to get into the shower!! I asked for a room change on the first day and it was never organised for us despite another guest being given a different room two days after I had asked!
The location was central to everything and situated next to lake Como so the views were spectacular

United StatesThe one thing I was not thrilled with was in front of the patio of our room there was a big ledge filled with rocks. It took away from the lake view and there were cigarette butts in it. After a day or two that did get cleaned. The bathrooms are extremely dark. New lighting is necessary for the bathroom and new hair dryers that you can use anywhere in the room would be helpful. They are attached to the wall in the bathroom so you must blow your hair in there. Also, the wallpaper needs to be updated in the room because you can see it is incredibly old and it is pulling away at the seams. The mattress was also rock hard. I had an incident with one of the waiters. He was very rude and threw down a plate of food on the table. I did report him and later I spoke with him and said let's start again. I think we had a communication problem, and he was frustrated. The Maitre'd in the restaurant needs to take a cue from his wait staff to be friendly and to smile more. He is too uptight. Everyone else was awesome, especially Julia!!!!! The staff at the front desk were very helpful too.
The old-world charm of the hotel is beautiful. We loved having the lake view with a spacious patio. Our room was very spacious, and housekeeping kept it exceptionally clean! The bar area and lounge are beautiful places to sit. Outside is spectacular by the pool with a stunning view of the lake and mountains. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres on the patio were wonderful. There were plenty of choices for breakfast and lattes and cappuccinos were delicious. The ferry dock was right next to the hotel which made it so easy for transportation. The walk into the village was a short one and there were several wonderful restaurants to dine in.

United StatesIt would be nice if the pool area had a hot tub for the cooler months. We wanted to leave our servers in the restaurant a tip, but could never figure out how to do that. It was a bit confusing on how to order a simple salad or lighter fare in the evening when we didn’t want a big meal, and some of the complimentary appetitizers were a bit exotic for our taste.
The view is spectacular. The staff very efficient and helpful. Our room on the third floor had a wonderful view, and it was great to be able to fully open the large window, which was bigger than expected, so it gave the room an open feeling. The included breakfast was amazing, and our other meals at the hotel were good as well. The hotel is well kept. The location was great with ferry or bus access and easy walking distance to town.

AustraliaMore an observation than a complaint but it's an old building with lots of character but a little tired and needs a refresh in the rooms.
We loved our stay at Grand Hotel Menaggio. The view from our lakeside room was amazing. It was centrally located for all places of interest to us incl walks, restaurants and shops. It is situated less than 100m to the ferry terminal for transport to other lakeside villages and the view from our window of Lake Como and the snow capped mountains was magical

United KingdomThe light in the bathroom was barely adequate The price, at 500 euros per night, is high. Although it was a great stay, it doesn't feel like a 500 per night hotel.
The location is perfect, right on the lake. We paid extra for a balcony (+50 euros per night) but glad we did Being next to the ferry terminal wasn't an issue. It finishes early in the evening and we enjoyed the hustle and bustle of lake life The hotel is not "faded" in any way. Yes it's a grand old hotel, but it's in good decorative order Breakfast on the terrace is a delight, as is pre-dinner drinks in the lounge with amazing view The pool area is tasteful and attractive It's a relaxed hotel, not fussy, and you feel welcome

United KingdomThe breakfasts were not great. On one day the fruit salad was just sliced apple. Gluten free bread was freely available, but asking for it to be served with the scrambled egg resulted in an extra large of 16 euros (for a week). We were now warned about the charge and it came as a shock when we checked out (along with a 10 euro charge which I think was for tea). I know it's small change in the grand scheme of things, but it tainted an otherwise great experience. I should have challenged it but we were running late for the ferry.
The location overlooking the lake was ideal and the hotel was full of old world charm. Rooms were clean, quiet and beds were comfortable. When swimming, the staff even came to the poolside to replace our towels with dry ones.

United StatesSome guests smoked under our window. The tv remote was a little tricky and the bed a little low but honestly no big deal compared to how fantastic everything was.
Absolutely amazing. Located right by the ferry so you can easily get to Bellagio and Verrena. Friendly staff, nice toiletries, and a wonderful breakfast. The Croissants were to die for. We had a beautiful window view of the lake. Overall, Bellismo.

United StatesBreakfast was very good with lots of options. They make great scrambled eggs to order. All types of coffee available: americano, espresso, cappuccino etc. Also available was salad, yoghurts, meats, cheeses, pastries, breads and toast. We had dinner at the hotel one night and it was excellent. The dining room and outside dining spaces are very pretty near the pool overlooking the lake. They have a quaint bar with inside and outside seating near the pool as well. The hotel is steps away from the ferry stop so very convenient to getting around the lake. There are also private water taxi tours available from a dock to the north of the hotel on the way to the small town square which is close to the water. The hotel is in a quiet part of the lake. Much less busy than Bellagio. The hotel is a bit tired looking but we actually foun the dates decor charming.
