Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe air conditioner malfunctioned on a particularly hot and humid night and the small transom windows couldn’t be opened sufficiently to mitigate.
Superb location on the Giudecca, far enough away from the throngs to get away from the bustle but a quick Vaporetto from San Marco.

United StatesNadia was very helpful and communicative. Answer any questions right away. Bernard was also helpful. Clean apartment right across from the main island (easy to get to the main island on the vaporetto). I loved it more than being on the main island. Quieter and more local people. Right on the water with yummy restaurants right next to us.

UkraineThe air conditioner made noises at night, and some liquid was running from it. No one cleaned the bedroom, only the dining room and kitchen, and there was no broom for cleaning. There was also a bit of mold on the bathroom walls. Additionally, the person who let us into the apartment said that we were not allowed to use the kitchen for cooking because it could cause a smell of food. We could only use the fridge and coffee machine.
The location was perfect—a very quiet place, easy and quick to get to the center or other parts of Venice such as Burano, Murano, and Lido by vaporetto (boat bus). There are a few cafes around where you can have the best Italian coffee and croissants for breakfast. It’s 10 minutes to the supermarket and 5 minutes to the vaporetto stop. The room is big enough for two people, with a dining room that includes a table and chairs. There’s also a coffeemaker, fridge, and kettle in the kitchen. It looks like a two floors apartment with one entrance and two rooms and bathrooms on each floor. We haven’t seen or heard our neighbours at all. There are towels, iron and a hairdryer.

DenmarkSmall thing - the AC was extremely noisy, and there was a lot of mosquito marks on the walls that could have been cleaned.
The place was amazing - perfect location. Away from the crowded streets in Venice but only a short boat ride to San Marco (and the vaporetto stop is only 2 min away). Very nice restaurants close to the apartment and the view from the Guidecca island is so beautiful! Well equipped and new apartment, we did not miss anything.

Saudi ArabiaBathroom was outside the room. The curtain was required in front of the first-floor arch area. Guest from the ground floor can see the bathroom area of the first floor and it was a bit disturbing to look outside first before using the bathroom.

IsraelThe location was across the water from most of the tourist attractions so it wasn’t so easy to get to. You have to take a water bus which costs 25 euros for a day pass - that was an expense I didn’t know we would have. That being said, next to our place there were a few nice restaurants which was nice :)
The host was very nice and helpful :) there were nice coffee shops next to the place.

United KingdomIt was all good. My only gripe is that there is no side light in the bedroom.
Very friendly host. There is a bedroom, small sitting area and separate bathroom. It cost the same per night as my stay a week later in Venice (which was not on the Guideca but closer to San Marco) where I got a horrible, small, cramped room. Stay here rather than there! You can also book the whole apartment. You also get a coffee maker and kettle. There are plenty of nice bars and restaurants nearby.

United KingdomIt is a shared apartment. We had the downstairs room and seating area. Although we would have liked a little more privacy, we didn’t see the other couple during our stay and it did not hinder the experience.
The apartment was in a great location. Plenty of restaurants on the island. We got a multi-day pass for the water taxi, just a 10 minute boat journey to the main square in San Marco. The view as you exit the apartment was stunning! The host met us at the property and was very accommodating. There is daily housekeeping.

We liked the location on Gorgeous Guidecca, it's very easy to find. The Vaperattos are very frequent to St Marks and the train station. There are several very nice restaurants nearby on the canal front. The Hilton is 8 mins away and has an amazing rooftop bar - lovely for a cocktail sunset.

NetherlandsFirstly, when booking the place, it was mentioned that we have a fully equipped kitchen. That was one of our main reasons for booking it. When we arrived at the place, we were told that we could not cook in the kitchen, because the smell would reach the second floor. Now, this was also what we didn't expect, that we would actually have roommates. When booking a place, we were given the impression that it was a private apartment. So, the provided pictures were not fully accurate. Luckily we didn't have to share anything, but it didn't feel totally private place. Other people were using the same entrance and had to pass by through our floor to get to theirs. Last but not least, the place was very humid, and the bathroom was full of black mold, which can even harm health. I have heard that this is a common issue in Venice, but I cannot help but mention that even the tiles in the bathroom that are easily reachable and could be cleaned were full of black mold. This didn't give us a good impression of the place. And last detail. After our first night at the place, we noticed that the conditioner was leaking. I contacted the owner about it and sent some pictures, but I never got any reply, nor did anyone come to fix it.
The location was great. We loved staying on the other side, not at the Venice center. Even though we had to take a ferry daily, it was very close and didn't bother us.

GermanySo cozy apartment situated on the oldest island Judecca . First floor was our, second - for other travellers. For us it wasn’t a big deal. We haven’t seen each other at all. It was clean and good. And the best solution was to pick for nights this island. Because cafes there are super cheap and also have this real Italian vibe! Here live only local people.

AustraliaThe walls were covered in dead mosquitoes, which had not been cleaned. It’s not overtly clear (without reading other reviews) that the bedroom and bathroom (we were upstairs) are apart of a shared guesthouse, so something to keep in mind. You are able to lock both rooms, so it is manageable if you’re okay with other people being downstairs.
Great location, easy access to the main island of Venice via the ferry! Lots of other cafes and restaurants just downstairs which is super convenient.

FranceThe entrance is not private, contrary to the description of the room which is not faithful. It is a two levels appartment and to reach my room I had to cross the kitchen/ lounge downstairs used by other guests. I could hear them in the evening or at breakfast. The aircond is a mobile unit inside the room, and very noisy. The bathroom is another room on the same floor but you have to open your room to go to it. Very overpriced although in Venice.
The place is well located in Giudecca and easily accessible from San Marco. It is comfortable for the beds and the bathroom. Also very clean.

Rude man. Didn’t feel safe travelling as two women. My pregnant friend was accused of taking drugs by the owner for whatever reason (only he knows) he asked us to leave at 1am because of this leaving us to find accommodation without a refund nor reason for doing this. As I said before, my friend is pregnant and in no position to be on the street at 1am nor was she drinking on this holiday. This man took an instant dislike to us as single travellers which we felt upon checking in. He also physically assaulted her which we then had to report to the embassy and police and STILL no refund!!!
