Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Russia500 year old Haveli in the heart of the Jaisalmer fort. The same family has lived there all these years. Haveli is incredibly beautiful, with frescoes, wood and stone carvings. Everything is clean, all the facilities are present. The shower is pretty good, being in a desert it's nice to take a few times a day. Service is super friendly, it feels like staying with a family, rather than at a hotel. Shubham gave a tour of Jaisalmer and shared the history of that beautiful city. I'll happily stay at Suraj again.

This place has an unique atmosphere and we truly loved our stay in this beautiful old haveli inside the fort. What made our stay unforgettable was the warm welcome from the family who also lived in the haveli. They were knowledgeable and could answer all our questions about India. We would definitely recommend this place and we hope to come back again. We had a morning walk in the fort together with Shubham and were told everything about the history of Jaisalmer. They also arranged a fantastic trip to the desert for us and as we didn’t want a camel ride we visited a desert village instead which was a great experience for us. This place truly is a gem 💎

United KingdomThe fact that I can’t stay here forever.
Amazing heritage haveli, easily the best and most interesting room and establishment I’ve ever stayed in, both in India and anywhere else. It’s way, way, better than either the pictures or its two stars suggest. The family running it are amazing and it’s a cool and comfortable refuge from the searing desert heat. I can’t recommend it enough.

We had an amazing time at Hotel Suraj in Jaisalmer. The impressive 17th and 18th generation of the family who lives and has always been living at the haveli gave us a warm and relaxed welcome, so that we felt at home straight away. The room was spatious, clean and above all very charecteristic. Make sure to allow the family to tell you more about the history of the building and the fort / wider Jaisalmer too. Shubham knows everything there is to know about Jaisalmer! Definitely recommend and if we are ever back in town, we’ll stay here again.

United KingdomLovely family, very caring, helpful and made us feel so welcome. Arranged a late check out at short notice due to illness of my partner, and refused to accept any extra money. Also gave us a wonderful tour of the fort and helped arrange station pickup. Would recommend to anyone and hope to be back one day ourselves! The hotel itself has a homestay feel and you are staying in an old Haveli - so the rooms are individual and characterful. Ours had a lovely balcony and seating area, looking out over the fort and sunrise. Breakfast was fresh and available on the rooftop or in the room.

United KingdomOur rooms and the building as a whole were beautiful. We had a small but comfortable balcony overlooking the walls and the city below - perfect for sitting in the sun with a book during the day. We also had a private inner terrace to eat breakfast. Breakfast was simple (poha or upma) but the poha in particular was very flavoursome. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and if we needed anything Shubham was only a WhatsApp away. Shubham arranged a good value pickup from the train station who was there waiting for us despite the train arriving over an hour and a half late and with midnight approaching. Furnishings, bathroom etc. were basic but sufficient and overall for the cost it was extremely good value and a perfect place to have a few relaxing days. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Hotel Suraj!

Stunning architecture in this old heritage property, maintained within keeping. All rooms are different, mine was not as extravagant as the 3 others but I had my own terrace on last floor and small living room. Quiet and pleasant place. The owner and husband son Shubham are adorable, always ready for a chat and assistance, they made my stay very enjoyable.

United KingdomWe loved the hotel building itself, it is a beautiful place to stay with so much history and detail. The views from the terraces are also great. The family were very friendly and helpful. They were accommodating in providing extra blankets, toilet rolls and water. As it was our anniversary they put up balloons and left rose petals which was unexpected and felt very special, thank you again for doing this. We took up the kind offer for a free walking tour which was fun and informative. The breakfast was also tasty.

Friendly, accommodating staff, willing to help with a smile. The impeccable service and hospitality of your staff made our retreat most enjoyable. We were very impressed by the responsiveness of you and your staff from the planning stage till the end of our retreat. The best part of the suraj haveli is it inside the jaisalmer fort. And the service is the best service which I doubt any five star or seven star hotel can beat. The hotel was above expectation. Congrats! Food was good fresh and on time. .

IndiaThere is nothing that I didn't like.
This was unexpectedly the best ever hotel stay that we had. It's actually a 500 year old Haveli inside the Golden Fort. The owner of the haveli is the 18th generational descendant of the kings counsel. They have created a homestay kind of a hotel, while they stay in the ground floor itself. Their behaviour and services are excellent. The owner itself can be more than a guide, if you talk to him for then ten minutes and knows more about the city than any other guides. He himself comes to recieve and drop you, even carries your luggage. From the roof of the haveli you can get a panoramic city view as well as best view of sunrise and sunset being the fourth highest point inside the fort. The number given in the hotel contact itself is his number.

NetherlandsDon’t expect to much luxery. The hotel is in a fort of few hundred years old. But everything works (even the hot shower)
Lovely hotel with lovely people. Always there to help and tell you some more about the history of the place. Although the fort itself is quite busy, in the hotel itself it’s nice and calm.

United States of AmericaOur stay at Hotel Suraj was exceptional! The place has a 500 year old history and is being lived in by the 18th generation of the same family! The original charm and history of this place is not to be missed! We booked a Maharani suite and we were not disappointed. The suite and a bedroom, a living space and bathroom. The interior takes you back many years! The process was smooth from the booking to checkout. The room was beautiful, extremely clean and comfortable. The hotel stay includes a delicious breakfast and guided tour of the fort, which is a great deal at this price! Shubham took us for a walk around the fort. The walk was more interactive, informative and interesting. Shubham went above and beyond with helping us with our problems. We had a package coming from Jodhpur via a bus. As we were scheduled to drive to the desert camp, it was extremely important to pick up the package at the Air Force Chowk and he generously offered to help us to pick it up and kept it safe. I cannot thank him enough for his help. I'd highly recommend their homestay for anyone who is traveling to Jaisalmer and for any number of days.

If you're looking for an authentic stay in Jaisalmer this is the place! The room exceeded our expectations and the views from the balcony was amazing. The room was clean and fresh linen and towels were provided. The breakfast and dinner offered at the property were very tasty! Shubham and his family were so welcoming and made us feel like part of the family. We were taken on a tour of the fort and nearby areas, and they organised a camel safari in the desert for us - which was incredible. No request was too large, and we were even given a lift to the train station at 2am - thanks again! Would highly recommend this place if you're staying in Jaisalmer, couldn't have had a better time :) We will be back!

We really enjoyed our stay in this lovely haveli inside the Jaisalmer fort. The hosts were very welcoming and took us even on an insightful guided walk through the fort and organized a romantic sunset dinner in the That desert. The home-made breakfast was amazing and the room had the charm of the ancient city while being clean and comfortable.

The hotel is a building from the 15th century centrally located in the middle of the living fort. It is run by a family of super nice and welcoming people who are happy to meet whatever wish you might have. We stayed in the Maharaja's room and must say that we have never stayed in such a beautiful and well-preserved historic place before. Even staying in the room felt relaxing to us. The son of the owner runs architectural tours of Jaisalmer’s fort for guests, this is highly recommended as the guide is knowledgeable and enjoys what he does. In addition, the hotel offers a rooftop with a view over the Jain temples where breakfast (Indian or international) is served or where you can make yourself cosy. We recommend trying the Indian version, as it is delicious freshly prepared and different every day. On the day of our departure, we left late in the evening and the hotel offered us a guest room and arranged a tuk-tuk ride. The overall experience was outstanding as we have never experienced this combination of domestic hospitability, historical authenticity and a relaxing atmosphere.
