Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The scenery was quite exquisite with the ocean and beach and islands in front of us. It was very spacious property, and the owner was very pleasant and informative. He even upgraded our room because of a little inconvenience. They also had a nice menu We look forward to visit again.

NetherlandsNothing in particular. The beach is not the best beach of Sumbawa, but at high tide you can go for a nice swim.
What an amazing resort. It is so wide, it felt both private and social at the same time. The big restaurant is an amazing meeting place but the rooms and villa's are very private. We had one of the villa's which was amazing and very spacious. The big garden gives lots of space for children to run around and play, without you having to worry about them bothering other guests. Food was good and the sunset and the views are out of the world!

IndonesiaThe weather at the time. No terrace or chairs for sitting.
Expansive and well manicured lawn with coconut trees. Big bathroom with branded shower liquid and shampoo, quite a luxury. Big bamboo structure, a restaurant and a place for guests to congregate.

NetherlandsSome improvements can be made. The regular staff were friendly but felt sometimes inexperienced or a bit passive at times. Support on travelling questions was slow, in case ingredients were missing from a dish this was not mentioned in advanced (you just noticed it when served). The twin and double rooms felt a bit simple, functional, nothing to rave about. Also mind you that the WiFi is not covered in all rooms - so in case you mind make sure you get a room near to a router. The latter we thought was quite a let down if you compare this with other similar hotels, especially when some rooms do have connection (purely on proximity to the router) and other don’t who pay the same price.
The view over the sea with Lombok as a backdrop is amazing. Because we used two types of accommodations we can say that the family-villa’s are really a step up compared to the rest. Also the food served was of fine quality (there’s not much around, so when you have limited wheels, you are mostly pretty bound to the hotel restaurant). They had some skate/surf equipment laying around as well which was great fun for the kids (and parents).

United KingdomLocation is idyllic, looking out over the ocean towards Lombok. The restaurant is good and the menu covers the majority of tastes. Due to the remote location the alcohol is understandable expensive so be aware if you wish to have a few beers. The room was comfortable and clean.

AustriaIt’s located in a amazingly beautiful and peaceful spot!! The Standard rooms are simple but very comfortable with a great hot shower. Food is very good and staff very friendly. You can go for a little swim right in front of Whales and Waves and if you want to swim more you just walk across to the next beach ( 10 -15min). The area to do some yoga or a workout is great and you can just grab a mat if you need to. It is just a wonderful place to relax, do some surfing or to go for a dive in the new dive center nearby!

GermanyThe place has potential but a long way to go to even get close to being a nice place to stay. First, the reception when we arrived was very poor. There was zero explanation of anything, the guy did not ask if we had any questions or needed recommendations, he just solemnly took us to our room. We stayed in room #1. The room reeked of sewage. The bathroom was in a poor state with ugly brown walls and a leaking, stinky toilet. The beds are not comfortable and desperately need to be replaced. The entire room needs an update including painting over all the stains on the walls. The drapes barely covered the windows and had many stains. The Wi-Fi barely worked in the room. The restaurant leaves huge room for improvement. We ordered Nasi Goreng and it was poorly flavored with a cold egg that was no longer runny and cold chicken. It cost 75000 IDR! I recommend buying rice packets from Warung Maran down the road, which cost 10000 IDR each and taste much better. When going to open our door, there was one of the maintenance staff taking a pee just outside the room. First, this is a disgusting thing to see but second, it always smelled bad on the walkway going to the room and this is probably why. When we told the reception staff, they did not know how to behave and simply asked if we could tell them exactly where it happened. When we were there, there were strange vibes from most of the other guests. The bigger villas were all occupied by Russian families and they dominated the common living space, spreading out across all the tables. There was nowhere else to comfortably sit close to the room. The pricing for surfing was unclear and is a complete rip-off. They wanted to charge 725 000 IDR for a guide who just showed the spot and gave zero teaching plus 50 000 IDR for the boat per person. There is a beautiful view of the ocean but I do not recommend staying here. We could not wait to check out and go somewhere clean and comfortable.
There are skateboards, a half pipe, a slack line, a sling trainer and yoga platform but when the whole place has weird vibes, it doesn’t feel comfortable to use them.

BrazilLocation - the beach is not really suitable for swimming, as it is a seaweed farm from end to end. Also there is no pool in the resort. - the place is not really remote, there is a local village 5-minutes walking, and locals roam around the place all the time. - there is not a lot of things to do around the property, even for surfers the waves are quite inconsistent. Location the views of the beach and volcano are amazing. the beach is not really suitable for swimming, as it is a seaweed farm from end to end. the place is not really remote, there is a local village 5-minutes walking, and locals roam around the place all the time. Room room is extremely simple, not up to the price tag at all, considering Indo standards A/C was very dirty, probably didn’t see a cleaner for an year our toilet clogged a few times during our stay there is no water kettle in the room, so you are forced to order everything in the restaurant A/C machine from neighboring room was making a really loud noise when on, we could hear it even with doors closed. Shower water pressure was really low, hard to take a decent shower. Bed and pillows were quite uncomfortable, we could feel the springs in our ribs. Restaurant food was one of the very low points of our stay, definitely bad. Portion was small in most dishes Pizza is a no go, like that frozen ones we buy in the supermarkets It takes ages for your food to come, even considering Indo standards again Dishes never come at the same time, so you watch your partner’s meal sometimes for 20 minutes before having yours. Could not find the coffee in my Cappuccino, it was pure milk. They leave skateboards in the restaurant area (yes, you read it right), you will find a lot of kids running around the restaurant riding skateboards and hitting people on the tables. It also makes the environment really noisy and chaotic, not something you search for in the middle of your meal in an “isolated” place.
Location, the views of the beach and volcano on the background are amazing.

AustraliaIncredibly overpriced, water usually.50c was $1.70. We HAD to take their transport at the outrageous price of $65.00. Breakfast included in room price was charged and when I questioned it, they tried to charge me for milk for tea. Place is good but a blatant rip off..

BulgariaWhales & Waves is truly a wonderful place to stay in beautiful Sumbawa. We loved everything- the huge yard, the outdoor community space where we met a lot of cool people, had our meals, played with their two labradors etc. The place is really kid friendly- a lot a children were playing around, skateboarding and having fun. The rooms were also good. We rented kayaks and went snorkeling to the nearby island. The food was great, we recommend trying the Mie Goreng with beef! The local surf spot is 5 minutes away by motorbike which could also be rented at the resort. We were there for just 5 days but next time we’re staying more. :)
