Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

This is almost a no frills, get back to nature, live on a desert island by the edge of the jungle, in a bungalow hand built from driftwood, swing in a hammock, swim with the turtles, Robinson Crusoe experience. If you are expecting and ready for that experience, it can be fantastic. On the other hand, if you are not prepared or looking for that experience, it can be a disaster. The frills include a mosquito net for your bed, a bed which is quite comfortable, solar powered internet and lighting, lunch and dinner sent over by boat from the nearest village. This is a case where you should read every review closely before you decide whether this experience is for you. Because for all the positives of an escape back to nature, there are just as many negatives to living on a remote beach in a hand built bungalow on the edge of the jungle.

MalaysiaIt was honestly great, if i was working i'd want faster internet but actually thats not a concern on holiday.
The place itself is absolutely beautiful, authentic, rustic, eco-friendly and natural. The accommodations are basic but for the price they're brilliant. The staff are great people. There's nothing more to ask for except a good book.

MalaysiaThe lack of internet made it difficult to keep in touch.
Everything needed for a relaxing budget vacation was available. Comfortable bed, amazing view, friendly owner. Meals were provided (banana pancakes for breakfast included, lunch and dinner brought by boat at reasonable price). Snorkeling in front of lodge and at nearby islands was good.

NetherlandsLots of mosquitoes (not the fault of the owner, but make sure to bring enough GOOD insect spray. The food was nice, but a bit more variation would be nice. There could be more hammocks at the stay.
Amazing location, good but cold ‘shower’ and toilet were good. Good snorkeling for turtles!! The owner truly is the best and speaks English well! Raqai was super helpful, even after we left the place. Pickup from airport available for fair prices. Snorkeling masks, water shoes/ canoe/supboards for rent.

RussiaThere are no words to explain how wonderful it is! Forget about facilities and usual reviews, here you will get the experience which you were looking for… Paradise beach with lavish plantations, huts made from broken boats and coconut trees, turtles and coral reef just 5 metres from the shore. Ricky, the owner, is a guy who you will remember as your friend from Sumatra, somebody who you long to visit again. We really didnt want to leave this place!

Czech RepublicWe’ve had an amazing stay at Sumatra Ecolodge! It is obviously no luxury ( no hot water, almost no reception, no GENERATORS), but in exchange you get the pure relaxing experience in the middle of nowhere, where you can spend your time just sitting on a beach watching turtles taking a breath on the water surface. I wish we could spend a couple more days. Rakai is a great host and a person to talk to.

United KingdomThis isn't so much a negative as a heads-up - the lodge has no internet connection (there is some on the beach and around the headland), no AC, no electricity in the rooms other than solar powered lights and lots of mosquitos - though the bed is under a mosquito net. This is part of the charm of the place but make sure you know what to expect.
Sumatra Ecolodge is a stunning location in a beautiful part of the world. The reef in the bay is home to sea turtles, hermit crabs and many colourful fish which you can meet using the kayak or by snorkelling from the lodge. The food brought by the boatman each day is simple and tasty. You can ask ahead if you want vegetarian food. It was great to spend a few days in nature living in a more environmentally friendly way - something that we all must do to protect such beautiful places. We hope to be back.

United KingdomNear impossible access to the toilet area adjacent to my bungalow for anyone with restricted mobility. The steps were slippy and very steep. A handrail is essential here. The food arrangements clearly need thinking about. They come by boat earlier in the day and are served cold later. Not great, athough there is a kitchen at the lodge with a gas supply, so that could be solved easily.
The owner was very interesting to talk to. Breakfast cooked fresh, with tea/coffee offered regularly which was very nice. There is a communal fresh water shower which is very pleasant. The sea is very warm and safe for paddling near the shore. The communal seating area is a nice place to meet others and hang out.

AustraliaI had the most amazing stay. The location is a natural paradise, you hear all the sounds the jungle has to offer and the snorkelling is fantastic!! The accommodation itself is very basic and there is no wifi or signal really so be warned! I honestly think though that this adds to the experience as you can really connect with yourself away from all the stresses of normal life. Dana and Raqay were super lovely and along with the other guests it felt like we were a little family. I highly recommend this place!!

Raqai en Dana are the best! They make you feel very welcome While doing their own thing. In this way you get to know a little how they live. KazakhstanI found it difficult to get to the ecolodge and was ripped off twice (by boatmen and motorbike rider)
It was unforgettable experience, three bright and pleasant days. I was met by Dana, who working there like volunteer. She patiently explained to me everything. Despite the facilities are very basic, I was enjoying my stay. Your house is facing the sea and surrounded by the forest, cheeky monkey and squirrels jumping on the trees. It feels like paradise! The owner can lend you kayak (payable) and you can explore the nearest islands (I was managed to explore most of them). The price for the room is increadibly low. The owner is very pleasant erudite man.
