Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaBreakfast on terrace by the water was lovely. Everyday a different dish arrived in the basket. Hosts (Nik) was very helpful.. lots of great hints of where to go and what to do. Lovely quiet little spot at bottom of Oia

United Arab EmiratesThe location is in the bay of Oia, very calm place with some lovely restaurants nearby. The way down could be a bit rough with luggage so don’t carry too much! :) The room is clean and has all the facilities you would need. Aside from the great hotel, the hospitality from the staff was outstanding. Chris spoke to us in advance and made our arrival so smooth and Nik, what a lovely guy. He was super friendly, helpful and kind. Received us from the taxi and dropped us to our room, gave us an overview of what we can do and checked on us every day to make sure we are comfortable. He really made this stay one we won’t forget. Thank you Nik and Chris!

United Arab EmiratesThere’s no issue if you plan to stay longer, but since we only stayed for two nights, we found the numerous stairs to be inconvenient. Additionally, there were no nearby grocery stores and the restaurant options were limited.
The staff were very welcoming and kind. He met us near the property, assisted with our luggage, and arranged transportation to the port. The cute breakfast pack in the morning was a nice touch. The rooftop was serene with a beautiful view of the sunset, and the welcome bottle of wine was amazing.

United States of AmericaMake sure to communicate with host about arrival and leaving as the road is heavily controlled now. He’ll make sure you get a ride from the bottom while everyone else hikes uphill.
Prime location for the Santorini sunsets, at least to catch a boat that everyone else is. Awesome to feel like you’re staying in “original country”. Ice cream shop and the best restaurants on the island just steps away. Host is awesome. Breakfast is awesome but too much food.

United KingdomI hadn't realised that Ammoudi bay, where the property is, is only accessible down a very small road or by climbing up the stairs - the equivalent of something like 63 flights. The stairs are sloped and uneven and challenging. The taxi drivers don't really like coming down and have to reverse down the road. A 5 minute trip to get into Oia costs €15-20 without tip. We were staying in the three bedroom house with sea view. The bedroom floating above the kitchen is only about 5 feet high at the top and the other is only about 3. Both are accessed by tricky wooden steps. We were OK but anyone with any back problems or joint issues would struggle. The three bedroom suite is right next to the main stairs so quite public, particularly on the terrace. The swimming pool in the three bedroom suite isn't lit, so didn't really appeal - we didn't use it. It would have been much nicer if it was lit. There are very few doors in the property (2 of the bedrooms have no door) and the ones that are there are frosted glass and don't fit securely into a frame. So I wouldn't recommend going with anyone you wouldn't want hearing EVERYTHING in the bathroom. Because there is no door between two of the bedrooms and the pool the pool pump (which is constant) was quite loud. The main bedroom is directly over a loud restaurant which plays loud music into the early hours. Luckily we had bought earplugs. The main issue we found with the properly was the significant lack of storage. The main bedroom is the only one with any hanging, which is a rope with hangers. The two smaller bedrooms have two small bedside tables each. That's it! We were living out of our suitcases which wasn't great. There weren't even hooks for anything. The kitchen isn't really designed for cooking and the cutlery and crockery were limited, although Nico would have sorted anything else we needed. The restaurants nearby are pretty but very expensive.
We were staying in the three bedroom suite with pool. The decor is done nicely. The best thing about Secret Gem is Nico, who is very friendly and lives on site. He was able to sort any issues (we needed mugs bigger than espresso cups for tea and he brought some for us) and will help with your baggage. Chris also arranged lots of taxis for us over WhatsApp. The breakfast is good - an egg dish, yoghurt/rice pudding, a pastry, fruit (mainly apples) and bread with marmalade or honey and orange juice. There's no choice, although you can request vegan/vegetarian and they accommodate for allergies and intolerances. The earliest it arrives is 8am as its made off site, but on the days we left early Nico just popped it in the fridge. The eggs are quite cool by the time they arrive but easily heated in the microwave. The bins are emptied daily and the floor swept, with one big clean in the middle of our week long stay. You can drink the tap water, which isn't the case for the rest of the island.

AustraliaNOT a dislike - but the walk down (& up) from Oia is strenuous - not for the faint hearted.

RomaniaNot so easy accessible - from Ammoudi Bay to the house there were quite some steps, and in order to get to Oia Castle you have to climb all those steps (Oia Steps). We had rented a car so we could have more flexibility, but parking also seemed a bit problematic especially when many people drove over to enjoy the sunset.
Waking up every morning with such amazing view was priceless, the room was nice and we also had a terrace. We enjoyied every minute we spent there.

Czech RepublicSmall room, we didnt have anyone to clean our second day and third we left. There is no parking options. We dont mind walking all the way down, but I can understand people who did…
It was amazing location, but you should have a car. Than there is a big chance it’s going to be damaged because of lots of people come there to watch amazing sunset. It is unique experience, but our room was small. Very nice and cozy, but from the pictures we had different idea. Anyway this experience was great! I would recommend to have a microwave in the room, as AMAZING breakfast is quickly totally cold. We loved that place and had great time there.

United KingdomIt’s not a dislike but more of a reminder. The hotel is at the bottom of the stairs. Buy snacks, drinks etc at the top before making your way down. Also, phone signal is extremely poor/non-existent at the bottom, check in instructions should be made a little more clear.
Super spacious, absolutely amazing location. Nikolas really couldn’t do enough for me, he was extremely helpful and polite. Sunset in the hot tub was amazing.

United States of America1. You need to take 500+ super high stairs to get to Oia. There are no taxis available. The taxi from here to airport is 15 EUR if you book with the hotel. 2. The rooms are great but in some of the rooms you cannot stand. They are great for 2-3 nights stay but after that we may feel claustrophobic.

United States of AmericaI wish I would’ve been told how I could get to the property without using their transfer services from Santorini airport. I walked the steps vs down the road because I didn’t know it was an option. I also think the pink couch should be reupholstered.

GermanyIt‘s located at the bottom part of oia. If you don’t have any own way of transportation, then it’s a bad idea. You have to go up thru hundreds of steps. That’s the only downside.
The accommodation and services were far beyond our expectations. 🥰
