In retrospect, I would have rather stayed two nights in Kardymili, using it as a base for visiting the Mani and ancient Messene. (Things are much closer in actuality on the Peloponnese than it seems when you are planning from afar.)

The Messene area is not great for hotels, and Kleopatra is definitely one of the better places that you can stay. Just be aware that it is on the main road that has lots of traffic -- I did not realize this -- and request at your booking time a room facing the back of the hotel so you don't hear the trucks go by. Even though I hadn't requested a back-facing room, they thankfully gave us one. The view was not great (looking out onto rather junky backyards) but I so appreciated not being on the street. The manager of the hotel is tirelessly helpful and kind. The facility itself is clean, modern (elevator!), well-maintained. The room was fairly large by Greek standards and very comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding (he made us fried eggs to order).

Very helpful and considerate staff, comfortable room/ bed and very conveniently located near the airport for a late arrival and long transfer to final destination. Short walk to the centre of Messina for a meal. Didn’t have breakfast but dining room was pleasant and we did grab a fab cup of coffee before we left.

What a lovely hotel this is. Everything feels very fresh, clean and well cared for.. Comfortable bed, great water pressure in the shower, very clean. The staff at this hotel are very welcoming and friendly as well. Excellent breakfast with a lot of variety and great coffee. I'll definitely stay here again. And the town is a great spot for exploring the area and it isn't touristy at all!

I was at the hotel to spend a before a flight home, my flight was late the following day so I asked if I could stay in their public areas with bags until I took a taxi to the airport? I was offered extra time free of charge in my room, they stored bags, gave me wonderful cold water (unasked for) fresh figs, advice on how to get to town, where to eat when there and how to get a taxi home. All this was volunteered to help me pass my time before leaving Greece. They made me a snack, offered to turn on tv/video for me to watch, they couldn't have done more. The breakfast was wonderful, traditionally Greek but with twists and loads of it. You could eat inside or in the cool gardens of the hotel......this is a rave review, they were fantastic, kind, spoke good English and beyond it for helpfulness.

The breakfast was not served until 730am. We booked this because the proximity to the airport. We had a taxi scheduled to pick us up at 7:15am. Accommodation made no effort or offer to put out any food earlier… Poor hospitality. THE PILLOWS IN THE ROOM ARE DREADFUL – WAY TO THICK. Neither of us had a good sleep.

The bathroom was full of old cold cigarette smoke. Very disgusting and not bareable. Night receptionist handed out the room key without any further information. I had to come back twice to get the wifi password (which was not in the room) and to get a remote control for the air conditioning (which was not in the room). Lots of dogs in the neighborhood which keep you awake at night and replace your alarm clock. Almost no soundproofing to neighboring rooms.

Convenient location close to Kalamata airport (especially if you have an early departure or a late arrival). Modern, renovated rooms. Comfortable bed. Fast Wifi.
