Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MalaysiaThe kitchen was small, but well equipped for basic cooking needs.
Lovely location in the old town. It's great having two toilets inside the dorm.

BelgiumEven though I travelled in the low season and the room was not fully booked. It can get quite loud in the room. On the one hand the cubicles are in wood with the entry/exit at the end of the bed; this means that in case you turn around you will hit the sides/ceiling. You can hear all the sounds happening in the hallway. I wasn't necessarily bothered, but can imagine it being more of a thing during high season when it is fully booked.
I always love when you receive a small cubicle in a hostel. You can close of your sleeping area with a curtain and then have alle the privacy you need. Note the cubicles are in wood so you can hit yourself which can be quite loud. The location is ideal, in the center, easy access from the central bus station, walking distance from the hustle and the bustle without being in one of the main streets

United StatesThis is a very small, tight hostel. The dorm beds are pod-style but shorter in height and length than others I’ve stayed in. The kitchen has no space to work and did not have a functional stovetop when I was there. There is not a communal toilet but private ones locked in each dorm room. The shower is hot but cramped and very moist. The only communal area is a few chairs and tables on the street outside. The staff was friendly but disinterested.
The location is directly in the old town, very close to the main bus station.

BelgiumNo common area but the outdoor terrace does the job tho.
I really spent an awesome week there due the location, the travelers I've met but the best part is definitely the staff. Angelica and Eleni are super helpful, kind and with a high level of hospitality. They even brought us on day trips in incredible places. I'll remember it forever. Don't look further if you go to Chania.

FranceJust keep in mind that It still is a hostel. You have to share a dorm with some other people. Sometimes, you get decent, well-mannered dorm mates, and sometimes you don't.
Angelika, the owner, was just awesome. The location was great. The dorm was clean. Some level of privacy due to the blind installed for each bed in a dorm. Organized trips to amazing places in Crete were available.

United KingdomThe people who were staying at the hostel were super loud.Couldn’t sleep whole night. Should be a sign post to where you tell people to be mindful about noise during the night. These people was making unnecessary noise and didn’t care a bit. I was really tired next day. Is not worth it. My previous experience at the hostel was so much better. Also the room is too small for how many beds are

MaltaOn my first day, I was welcomed by fun and amazing people. The accommodation itself is amazing. I was in room 2 (level 2), and there were only 6 beds. Apart from that, the bed was really comfortable, and there were also two bathrooms, which is quite convenient so that you wouldn't have to wait. Balcony with a nice and touristy atmosphere. The bathroom was clean. I suggested putting a hook on the door; however, I had space to put my bags. There is a kitchen where you can cook and also eat outside, as it's a narrow street with a not-so-noisy but relaxed atmosphere. Angelica was amazing; she organised a day trip to the beach, which was quite far away from where we were staying. She is a friend rather than the owner of the place! I will visit this place again. Thumbs up!

NorwayThe doorms got pretty hot during the day, since the aircon was turned off sometime in the morning. But that´s alright since you don´t typically spend a lot of time in the hostel during the day anyway.
The staff was super professional, kind and helpful. The location was right in the city center, which is great when you´re staying in a hostel. It was both clean and the beds looked new and were comfortable. I felt safe and overall I had a great experience staying here.

Location is excellent. Beds are clean and comfortable. Dorm beds are really private, however if you pull the blind down it can get a bit hot

The room was minimal but had everything needed for a comfortable stay, plus the location was amazing and Angelika was incredibly helpful and informative (thanks again for helping me plan how to get to and from Samaria Gorge!). I would 100% stay there again if/when I return to Chania.
