Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

When we arrived, the host, Nektarios, immediately took me for a walk through Matala to get to know the place and give us some tips, at all times being very friendly. The apartment looks just like in the pictures, and they are located in the very center of Matala. The beach is 10m away, very convenient. The beach and water are beautiful, and there are very nice places to eat out. Aside from the Matala beach, there is another very nice one, 25min hike by foot, called Red beach

The apartment was spotless and beautiful, a little tiny but with a good sized balcony. We liked it so much we stayed an extra day. The owners were amazing even giving us presents when we left - so kind

CanadaEverything! Nektarios met us just outside of Matala and guided us in. He gave us a tour around the village, explaining where things were and introducing us to his mother Rothoula. The studio apartment was decorated with care and attention to detail. Steps from the beach. Large patio off room. Lovely central location. Pay parking very close by. The locals were friendly and helpful. Beautiful family, checking in daily to assure needs met. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

NetherlandsThis studio is more suited to a guy/guys than a couple. It is really very small and not very amenable to girly needs. Also a duvet on the bed would have been better. The cotton bedspread we slept under was scratchy and not very comfortable. Also: Negative: just a note, the only restaurant (2Friends) open nearby at this time of year (31 March) was terrible. The food was unappetising and the service was on island time. Positive: there are some very friendly cafes (Zafira) in the area when you're in need of a coffee at 8am!
The room, bathroom and kitchen were all extremely clean and modern. Also, the host was very accommodating, friendly and helpful.

GermanyIt was a real pleasure to be hosted by Ioannis. from the moment we arrived he took care of us, offering us a little tour, showing us the highlights of the place. Ioannis was a constant support throughout our stay, recommending places to visit and bars and restaurants! He also helped us by providing a rental car. United KingdomWas an exceptional stay, close to amenities. The host family had their shop close by and so were on hand if anything was needed. Host went over and above by leaving fruit in our fridge and by giving recommendations for places to eat and information about the area whilst walking us around the town.the apartment itself was spotless and tastefully decorated.
