Staff charge on each round of drinks I brought

Scrambled egg as part of breakfast not just to order as found this out after we had breakfast . And we would of had it instead of fried eggs

Bar area lacking in atmosphere, no background music and poorly stocked bar if you are looking for somewhere to relax after dinner. We didn't eat in the hotel, preferring to spread custom around a small town but booking early is essential in all the restaurants. No lift available as very old building would be problematic for many.

Room well presented, tea station well filled with quality goods, bathroom clean and loaded with ample soft, fluffy towels. Preferred buffet breakfast to served one. Location superb. On main thoroughfare, lots of independent shopping available, car park at rear of hotel compact but big plus is that it is only a few hundred yards from castle and gardens.

    Nothing

Room was comfy with good ensuite. Breakfast was hot and cold buffet served in a room which was timbered from the smoking room of the ocean liner Olympic. Really nice place to eat your breakfast. The hotel is on the main road and about 100 yards from Alnwick gardens and a short walk from Alnwick Castle.

No lifts, no one offered to assist. Not the best breakfast as overcooked bacon but undercooked eggs . Dangerous hot lamps over the food with no warnings. Had to remind the staff to make the beds as left for two days. Not acceptable for the price being charged.

The history and ambience of an old hotel. Loved the bar area but no bar food served after 6.00pm which is odd for a hotel .

We went for a drink in the bar on the last evening. The girl started cleaning floors etc while we were still sitting there which made us feel a little uncomfortable and we felt we couldn’t order another drink. It was only 7.45

The staff were welcoming and friendly. The location couldn’t have been better. Our room had everything we needed

Some breakfast items looked rather tired (e.g. pastries). No elevator available. No in-room coat hooks! (Like many hotels!).

Provided helpful local info on arrival. Car parking on site available. Central in town location. Good walk-in shower. Wifi worked well. Close to historic castle.

The most appalling breakfast service. Grumpy, unhelpful staff, who treated guests as if they were a nuisance. Not a smile to be seen. Pretty awful breakfast, too. The coffee was like dishwater. The pastries ran out. Overall, the worst breakfast service I have experienced in more than 50 years of travel.

Good, clean (if slightly dated) accomodation. Great location in walking distance of the castle and the (wonderful) gardens. Excellent reception staff.

Staff were pleasant enough but not exceptional. E.g at breakfast only 3 tables taken and when asked if we could sit at a different table to the one allocated it was a big issue. A smile can go a long way. Did eventually let us sit at a different table. Nobody else arrived so just what was the issue. Wine wasn't opened and poured at evening meal and told didn't have liqueur we ordered, I haven't heard of that were the waitresses words. Later, when in the bar they had the liqueur. Room was supposed to be superior but was a bit tired, with no pictures on walls, a very drafty window, we had to put towels at the window to stop the draft. Furniture tired and old, we had to ask for toilet rolls as not left. All this said, we probably would stay again.

We went due to the staircase and restaurant salvaged from the Olympic. This was excellent, although the hotel could make so much more of this.

There wasn't anything we didn't like, but we felt the bathrooms let the rooms down, they needed a little TLC. Water was hot and towels nice The breakfast was very good, although there wasn't any menu's on the tables, we asked about the dishes we had seen on the website menu and the staff were happy to order these for us and they were very good. I'm not sure why they weren't promoting the other dishes. Full English breakfast was self service, tea, coffee and toast was served. We were also given a time slot for our breakfast, which we thought was strange. Luckily, we hadn't booked time slots for venues we wanted to see.

The location was great, and so was the breakfast. Very near to the Castle and the Restaurants, bars and high street.
