Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe toilet didn’t always fully flush on the first time … think it may be a water pressure issue
It was very clean, good facilities, breakfast was amazing! and staff were friendly

United KingdomBathroom was ok. Water pressure in the shower was very weak so it felt like chasing the drops! Odd not to have a toilet roll holder in a hotel bathroom!
Really friendly and caring staff. Great decor in the hotel area. Fantastic location too, a short seafront walk to the centre. Excellent breakfast. Nice biscuits and water in the room.

United KingdomUnfortunately we couldn't find a restaurant within walking distance to eat at. Although it was a Friday night, very few local places were open in the evening. The pubs were not that family friendly either.
My son and I enjoyed exploring the hotel's treasures. The family room was like a suite with a separate space for parents and kids which was a lovely surprise. The hotel is so quirky and interesting, but the facilities are modern and suitable for a short stay. A treat.

United KingdomIt was a shame there was no evening meal as we are sure it would have been just as good as the breakfast.
The breakfast was excellent, our room was comfortable and cosy. We loved wandering around looking at the museum and art. All the staff were happy, efficient and ready to help with all our needs. The lift was a joy to ride in too.

United KingdomThe cable on the kettle was too short, so the kettle had to be filled on the floor. I really can't think of any other negative aspects.
This hotel is fantastic on so many levels. It’s not simply a place to stay with a lovely sea view, generous friendly staff, fabulous breakfast and a minute away from the seafront - it’s also a best kept secret. Two floors have an art gallery of napkin art from famous punters and normal folk - very fun! But it’s the history that makes you want to hang around indoors when you’ve really come to see the sea. The second floor has a museum of household items and clothing and typewriters and seaside pictures and all sorts from the last hundred years. It’s a curious eclectic collection, and if you ask, you’ll get to see the ledgers of guest lists too!! And it’s run by Jane, the maverick collector and storyteller who will regale you with tales over breakfast.

United KingdomNothing we can think of.
Excellent. Great selection for breakfast, well cooked and very pleasantly served. Staff outstanding, friendly and professional. The whole ambience was elegant and the uniqueness and authenticity of the venue was exceedingly well-preserved. It offers a journey back in time with many fascinating and interesting features which make this a "stand-out" venue. If you are looking for something different or unusual that is certainly not pretentious or tacky, then visit the Walpole Bay Hotel.

United KingdomNo draught beer ! One of the local Kent ones would be brilliant.
Fantastic staff and ambience. So much history and attention to detail. Loved the old lift worth a visit on its own. Breakfast exquisite top ingredients excellent filter coffee and kippers. Floor walk by the owner an added bonus. Best of all three tired cyclists. The dining room is victorian with ww2 music playing gently. They no longer do food but have an extensive number of takeaway contacts. Having a takeaway in a superb dining room with a great ambience was an absolute first and fantastic.

United KingdomCould do with more self space in the bathroom
The breakfast selection was what we would expect. It was a family hotel and it was really nice that the owner visited every table and chatted to the guests. The museum and pictures helped make it a unique hotel. Although we had a rear facing room it had a great sea view which was an unexpected bonus. All the staff were so friendly and helpful

United KingdomNothing! We loved everything about Walpole Bay
Walpole Bay Hotel is so interesting and unique and jam packed full of character! Its like nowhere we have stayed before. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful from check-in to check-out and Jane came to ask us how our stay had been at breakfast the next day, which was a lovely personal touch. The room was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed, including a generous amount of biscuits, tea etc and water bottles. The location was lovely and quiet and just a short walk from the town (approx 20-30 mins depending on speed). Breakfast was great, with a good selection, and the beds were comfy. It's worth having a wander through the different floors as its a treasure trove of antiques and items through the ages. The lift also catapults you back in time! We would 100% stay here again and look forward to it!

United KingdomWe booked this last minute on a whim as we made a mistake with the dates on our AirBNB booking. Wow. What a lovely surprise. It was like taking a trip down memory lane and history. It was so interesting and we loved the museum feel. We also spoke to the owner, Jane Bishop, and she shared their remarkable story. If you want to go for perfect and slick, this might not be your style. We even loved the old 1927 Otis lift and fell in love with the charm of the place. Please don't change anything

United KingdomThe history of the property. The owner was passionate about all her hard work she and her family had put into the hotel. Theres a museum, snooker table , a record room to play old records. A 1920s lift , it was like stepping back in time. The staff were very welcoming and the breakfast was really nice with plenty of choice.

United KingdomIt's an old building so water pressure in the shower isn't great, but that's honestly it.
walking into this hotel is like stepping back in time. the reception, bar/restaurant, original lift and museum/gallery of the hotels history were kitsch in the best possible way. It's not pretentious or trendy, facilities are simple, helpful staff, the breakfast was great and lovely views of the sunrise and sea from the rooms at the back of the building. location is good right next to walpole tidal pool and just 5mins from the definitely trendy bars and restaurants of Cliftonville. As an LGBT couple we got a warm welcome.

United KingdomWe had an excellent cheese board one evening. We went out after that. We would have liked a healthy option, then we would have stayed in.
Mostly we loved the facilities. It was so unusual, characterful, such an antidote to the usual banal, boring, anodyne places. There were fresh flowers everywhere, a silver engraved teapot at the breakfast table. The room was spacious and with a big comfortable sofa, a big cupboard, good old solid furniture. The staff were spectacularly friendly, really, not just the obligatory. They were efficient, they stay years, not surprisingly. The hotel says it is also a museum, every room, every wall has interesting stuff. The walk west from the door along the sands beneath the cliffs was beautiful.
