For the price, absolutely nothing was not to my liking, I really enjoyed my stay.

Lovely lady that runs the hotel, very friendly. The hotel is perhaps, a bit dated for some but I really enjoyed my stay. Very clean room, shower excellent, really quiet and breakfast was spot on. If anybody complains about this place they really should think about what they are getting for the price, do not expect luxurious surroundings and posh facilities, you get what you pay for. Everywhere else In Alston was 3 or 4 times the price of the Victoria Inn, I was super happy with my stay there Oh and another thing, secure storage for bicycles wad a Godsend on my C2C ride, I am so glad I booked there.

I was not travelling by car, but if you were, you would use the free public parking opposite. Public transport is limited.

Excellent and generous English breakfast, cooked just right, and served quickly. Proprietor friendly and helpful. Heating and hot water effective. Located centrally in a charming small town surrounded by outstanding countryside.

If you're after a freshly renovated, moderm and fancy environment, look somewhere else, this is simply functional and good value. The room was cold on arrival, took forever to warm up. Coming from abroad I found not nice to have carpet in the toilet but at least it looked new so it was smell-free. Cleanliness -ish but just ok.

Good value for money. The single room was small but cosy, the breakfast is a real cooked breakfast. Close to shops and food, I really liked the village in the middle of a wild countryside. The lady at reception was nice and happy to help. Bear in mind this is an old inn run on the cheap and you won't get disappounted, everything works well and it served me well for my purpose.

The fact that everything is getting more expensive these days, but that's not the fault of the hotel!

Breakfast was good, landlady was friendly and told us where we could get an evening meal just down the hill. Slightly past its prime and at the value family run end of things, but the view from the top floor double was stunning and the bed was comfy.

I’m sure there is plenty of opportunity for some to say what is not to like. Understand the back story, look at the history, feel the homeliness. For those who just want old fashioned, cheap and cheerful, look no further. The pub is fine, the prices are cheap, there is pool or darts to keep you entertained. We as a group had the pub to ourselves mid week, watched the football along with the landlady, had lots of great conversation and banter. If you want to impress your partner then look somewhere else and pay at least 3x the price.

Let’s set the scene first. A group of blokes doing a tour of nice driving/challenging roads in cheapo runabout cars, just for the fun of doing it. We wanted a cheap, one night stay. Alston is a perfect base but unfortunately it has certainly suffered from trade/investment over the years. Nevertheless, the Victoria Inn was absolutely fine for our needs. Yes it’s dated, yes it needs investment (As does much of Alston) but if you are not fussy, want a cheap stay, great breakfast and an absolutely gem of a landlady this is for you. The honesty, dedication, friendship of this lovely lady is remarkable. We were so pleased to have been a small part of her life.

Yes the rooms are far from modern but this reflected in the price. Also we stayed on a Saturday evening, and it is a pub so be aware you can hear the noise from down stairs. Mainly at closing time.

Good location, powerful shower really good breakfast. Land lady was an amazing host, couldn’t do enough for us and let us store our bikes in the “garage”

it really needs some money spent on the place, as it is very run down. This probably wont happen though as there are a lot of places up for sale close bye. There seems to only be a few locals that go in but you can tell the landlady is well liked.

The landlady was very friendly and went out of her ay to make us welcome. She even got us a reservation for dinner at another hotel the next night, as they had stopped doing meal in the evenings dewing covid . Very good breakfast clean bed.

Internet connection is problematic but that has more to do with the geography of Alston. Shower is not at the 2023 standard one would expect, but fair.

Very friendly and helpfull staff, helped us with getting a late dinner and went to great length to contact us when they found out we had left behind a bag at the inn. there's a small pub directly beneath the rooms but it closes around midnight, so no problem there. Rooms are spaceous.
