    My planning

Breakfast great choice. Location poor due to distances from major attractions and many were closed this time of year

    Nothing. Everything was exceptional.

The room could have been better maintained - one of the lights didn’t work, the towels were frayed and the washbasin was badly stained with timescale. At £230 a night for a double it was poor value for money. Breakfast was not included.

The room was spacious with a good view of the vineyard.

Noisy motel style bathroom fan. Traffic noise is surprisingly intrusive from the main road because you're in a shallow valley. Nowhere does it state that the breakfast is £20 a head extra on top of the very steep room rate (we paid £265). It's one of those strange places where a certain type of Brit glories in spending money in a showy way. There's no identity like the great Douro valley port houses, some of which support terrific boutique hotels for half the price. I think that's the issue here - the UK is not really a wine producer. Crazy that you don't even get a glass upon arrival. We brought our own champagne and it beat the house stuff hands down, even though the house stuff is £38 a bottle.

Location is within a working vineyard in a pretty bit of English countryside. Rooms are immaculate but the format is quite similar to a motel, with a strangely incoherent design philosophy - a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Food is pretty good. There's nothing to do unless you want to do the wine tasting at further expense.
