The hotel itself looks rather run down,, which would be off-putting to many, and the furniture is somewhat shabby looking. Given the warmth of the welcome I received, however, and also knowing that this hotel is pet friendly, overall my experience was positive and I would return again, if only to interact with the lovely chap at the front desk.

All I needed was a comfortable place to lay my head down for the night at a reasonable rate. Thorpe Lodge was decent value for money, nice comfortable bed, and a piping hot shower. The guy who booked me in was very friendly and helpful, and although the hotel itself is nothing special, frankly, I wasn't worried about that. The room was clean enough and uncommonly well stocked with tea bags and sachets of coffee, plus the usual towels and tolietries provided.. Close to the railway station and bus stops for those using public transport and free parking out the front for drivers. There is also a really handy Co-op right across the road.

It was quite hot (but I didn't try changing the heat). It would have been good to have a chair.

The welcome was excellent. The room was basic but, at the price, that was expected. It had everything needed and was clean. It _did_ have kettle, tea and coffee and some biscuits.

Since it's mid winter there needs to be more than just a sheet and a bedspread on the bed. Even though the heating was on I was a little cold. A blanket or duvet would be better.

Things were a lot better than my previous stay a year ago.

The only problem here was as I was coming back from the event I had come for meant a late return. The entrance was closed when I returned at 11am and there was great difficulty in getting into the hotel as there was no night reception. All I was given was a room key but no key to open the front doors. This was the only problem and something they can improve on. Apart from this the hotel was good value even without breakfast.

Room was ok but the stairs were ok but a lift might be of some use for elderly and disabled people. Staff was welcoming.

I have stayed here before and left a less than favourable review last time. I was more than pleasantly surprised this time. I was greeted by the reception staff who was very nice. She showed me to my room that was clean tidy and comfortable. It is a budget hotel and please dont expect the ritz, but it was more than adequate for my work purposes. thank you for a nice stay. Lots of parking right in front of the hotel which is very handy. coop accross the road is very convienient

I found a weird blob of something brown on the bath tub, and the toilet was carpeted. Might just be a me thing though.
