    Convenient, quirky, traditional, wonky hotel!

The Star is VERY noisy; especially if you have a room at the front. I brought an eye mask and ear plugs and I recommend this! Our room had the frames for secondary glazing but none in it. I really think that the hotel should provide earplugs (I stayed in a hotel in Manchester city centre that does this) before investing in secondary glazing (if allowed in this listed building) Now that The Dolphin has gone, The Star has put its prices up so hopefully can invest to grow business further. Our room had quality curtains but black out blinds / curtains would also aid good sleep ( all hotels should have them!)

This was our third time staying at The Star as it is incredibly convenient for an evening out. This time we had our second best room so far. It was quirky but had what we needed and had a very stylish, large, recently fitted bathroom with bath and separate walk-in shower. The floors are wonky (we had to go uphill to the bathroom) and the quite grand furniture was a bit scruffy but quite endearing! The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was very tasty and good value.

Room was at the front, thus it was noisy. Homeless people were many along the street but didn't bother anybody.

    Location good.

In need of some refurbishment, especially in shower, but clean. The lift is very old-fashioned.

Didn’t have breakfast but it looked like bad canteen food. Lots of cafes on the same street I’d try my luck there.

A hundred time more charming than a Travelodge aground the same price point, but the hotel is somewhat run down, with paper thin walls and windows that let a lot of noise through. It’s a nice property in a great location- it’s a shame it feels like them could do so much more with it.

The shower water was too hot and I was unable to lower the temperature. I found the top floor ver6 difficult to access, if I stayed again I would book a first floor room and the parking was a nightmare.

The location was amazing so central, staff were very pleasant and helpful.

The shower needs some work doing on it, as do the taps in the sink. The shower was dirty, the shower head needs cleaning. There was shavings on the sink and the toilet wasn’t very clean. I didn’t like walking through the breakfast room with my luggage on departure, while guests were eating breakfast.

The location, close to all amenities

Very friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is very central to town, easy walking to shops, cafes and restaurants. Lovely breakfast which catered for my food intolerances. Quaint, old style hotel with a working old elevator for the higher levels.

Dated decor. Breakfast choice expensive and not the best.

Very clean, nicely decorated room. A bit quirky hotel and breakfast room dated in decor. Friendly staff and good location for city and St Mary’s stadium.

Star Hotel is well situated close to Mayflower Cruise Terminal and shopping centre's. Lady serving breakfast was extremely cheerful and made our day. Numerous Pubs nearby, as are shops and parks. Historic town is interesting for first time visitors

There's no A/C and We had to open the windows to cool the room so we could hear the Noise from the alley below. The bathtub was very slippery, made showering a little tricky.

Location is great! Very Close to shopping. Room and bathroom were very nice. Coffee and tea in the room. A small pub in the hotel.

Multiple sets of stairs and trip through the dining room to get to our room. Had to wrestle through way too many fire doors to get to room. Construction on other side of parking lot went on most of night.

Great location. Nice old charm. Room was clean but basic.

It's not a fault with the hotel, but beware it's very noisy outside because the number of bars and restaurants close by.

Central to the city, very very clean and tidy, the shower was great although there was a slight fixture issue with ours.
