The marble bathroom with very big shower and lighted mirror. Big sink. The room was overall very clean and big. Big TV, big desk, boiler with tea and instant coffee, milk. Towels. The only thing that wasnt clean there was only one shit covering the materess and you could see big blood stains through the sheet. If you dont change or turn the matress make sure to cover it twice at least. Swimmingpool was included and water was warm. Didnt know you also have sauna and steam room. Didnt use the gym so I dont know. Reception very kind even if looked just employed, bar staff friendly a bit slow. I would go back anyway. Didnt have breakfast or lunch so I dont know about the food

I had to wait ages for check in, I called the mobile number on the front desk 3 times, no answer and no staff anywhere to be seen, front desk, bar restaurant etc had no one attending. I think they need more staff.

The location good, hotel a bit dated in places but value for money.

The hotel is very tired. The Wi-Fi was shocking and unfortunately if you wanted to use your hotspot instead you couldn't because your phone reception was also bad. The rooms are also very out dated and tired. This hotel could be fantastic but needs alot of work doing to it.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. The bar food (I had the steak burger) was fantastic.

Upon arrival was placed in a standard room when i paif for a deluxe family room with a bath. Room had no bath. I purposely booked the bath as i have sciatica and i struggle to stand for long periods of time. The fact that i booked and paid only to then be told by email that there was renovations going on and that the resteraunt. Which meant instead of a nice 3 course meal at a table being waited on ended up in us carrying our dinner to our room as the lounge bar was a mess and not enough staff as everyone was attending a wedding.

The breakfast was OK. They cooked me fresh scrambled eggs but the bacon and hashbrowns was a little dry. The dinning room was a little worn and uninviting. I'm sure it will be nice once it has a revamp.

The hotel was just outside Colchester off the A12. The hotel is being renovated, however we heard no construction noise during our stay. We were put in the new wing which has been beautifully renovated. We were first put into a double room and when we questioned it, the friendly receptionist changed us over to a twin. It had a huge TV and 2 comfortable 3 quarter size beds.

Other parts of the hotel are in the process of being updated, so I was lucky to get a room in the newer part. Instructions on how to use the air conditioning would have been helpful. I couldn't get it to go lower than 17 degrees. Also, there was no chair in the room which I didn't notice until I went to dry my hair. Not a big problem, and easily rectified.

The room had been recently refurbished to an excellent standard. Small touches like proper shower gel and shampoo rather than all in one wall mounted dispensers that are all too common in other, more expensive hotels were appreciated. Iron and ironing board as well as hair dryer available in room. Tea and coffee facilities also good. I had my evening meal and breakfast at the hotel and both were excellent. Although the menu is limited, the standard of the food exceeded my expectations (The lamb ragu with parpadelle pasta and truffle oil was delicious!)

In the bathroom I have found some abandoned hair in the bathtube. The tiles are coming down in some places. Renovation needed.

Unfortunately we arrived on a very hot day expecting the room to be air conditioned. The staff were helpful and found us an extra fan but we still had a rather uncomfortable night. Breakfast on the first day was well presented and well served, but distinctly lukewarm. We pointed this out, and on our second day it was verymuch better. There was no druaght beer in the bar of any sort - disappointing. Apparently this was to be rectified the following week.

Staff were very good - helpful and obligingly cheerful. Room was clean and well presented if a little tired. Bathroom was spotless, but again a bit tired.

There was a terrible stench of cigarette smoke as you walked through the corridors as people were smoking near open doors. Breakfast had to be in the bar, thankfully only a couple of people were dining otherwise we would have to eat breakfast on ‘occasional’ tables.

We recognise (and were told after we had booked, that building works were in progress on weekdays. This did not affect our stay so we accepted necessary untidiness outside. It would have been good if there was a lift.

Room, breakfast and bed. To be fair, we only used the hotel for Bed and Breakfast, so we did not spend any time during the day at the hotel.

I booked a "standard double or twin room" online, but it didn't given me the option to choose one or the other so was given a twin room at first and had to go down to reception to ask to switch rooms with a king bed as the two single beds were not able to be pushed together due to a table being attached to the wall. The decor in the room was VERY outdated, but when booking, the pictures online displayed a more modern and fresh look, which is what made me book in the first place, however, the room we stayed in was in desperate need of a revamp and was no way near to what i saw online so felt quite mislead by that. The overall cleanliness of the hotel wasn't great either, there were spillage stains on the curtain in our room, pieces of hair stuck in the tile grout on the bathroom floor, and when visiting the bar area in the evening, all of the chairs were somewhat dirty, with old bits of food/crumbs stuck in the crevices and a layer of dust across the top of the sofas which felt a bit uncomfortable to sit on. Overall, it's highly unlikely that I'll stay here again unless the cleanliness and decor has improved and matches the pictures I saw online.
