Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe place really needs a major overhaul. The decor is pure 1980's with worn 'gold' bathroom fittings. In the corridor near my bedroom, the ceiling was held up with a wooden prop! One of the windows in the bathroom was cracked and repaired with Sellotape. Also it took ages for water to come out of the taps. I turned on the tap, used the loo and by the time I came back to the sink, the water was just starting to dribble out!
Breakfast was good and plentiful. The hotel is really clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is full of character, very quirky. And it's right in the middle of Machynllyeth, which is handy.

United KingdomThe Wynnstay is a charming old hotel and has bags of character but it's fair to say that our room and bathroom, although clean and comfortable, did look somewhat 'tired' and in need of an update.
The all-in package included breakfast and dinner. Dinner was fantastic and exceeded expectations both in terms of quality and content. Much of the produce was locally sourced and the choices were genuinely a la carte. Compliments to the chef! Service was also excellent. Breakfast was very good. All the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and it was great to walk out of the front door into the heart of Machynlleth on market day. Free parking at the rear of the hotel was a bonus as it can be a headache at some places

Pleased with the accommodation, food, and hospitality we received, August 2024. [I post here on behalf of my Italian friends, on whose behalf I made this booking. Hence my name shows on this review. Their review of The Wynstay to me reflects our shared satisfaction with our stay there :) See also my August review of my stay - Garry Jones]

United KingdomIt is very tired. Mop and bucket was outside our room on arrival and not removed. Mold on bottom of shower curtain and damp discolouring on ceiling.
Like the quirkiness. Staff are always very good. Good location.

United KingdomQuite an old and run down building which could do with a bit of polishing up, however it is clean.
Clean, really quiet, slept like a log which rarely happens for me in b&bs. Shower worked well. Staff are lovely and welcoming. Right in central point so very easy to find and close to small supermarket.

United KingdomThe first room allocated hadn't been made up. However we were quickly given a good alternative (and the housekeeping staff were going to get a severe telling off from a furious duty manager!) . But a supervision failure?
An historic, quirky, but delightful place for a very comfortable stay with excellent dinner & breakfast, helpful staff, and off-street parking.

IsraelThe bathroom had the separate taps for cold and hot water. The toilet made enormous noise every time it was flushed. The noise isolation is non-existent, and the floors are creaking and slanted (it's a pretty ancient building). The shower was outdated too, and water stream was weak.
The location is good - right in the middle of the town. The breakfast was quite good. There's a restaurant open for dinner, but I didn't use it, so can't attest to the quality. There is a bike shed, albeit not most conveniently accessible. The room is sufficiently spacious, there's tea and coffee facilities, and the bed was comfy enough.
