The room didn't have a window that could be opened, when we had six men in quite a small room, some fresh air would have ben nice.

The facilities adjacent to the room were really good, everything needed for our stay.

Nowhere to dry wet clothes/boots. Miserable bar manager. Made a big deal of taking away the chair that I was sitting on and swapping it for a stool – not really sure why, think he was trying to return furniture to its 'correct' position, which I would have been more than happy to do myself once I'd finished using it! Odd behaviour – definitely not very hospitable – and sadly put a bit of a dampener on what would otherwise have been a relatively pleasant stay.

This is basic accommodation at a reasonable price, which allows access to some great walks. Showers were hot and good pressure, and decent kitchen facilities and dining area if you're self-catering, which I was. If you can approach the mixed dorms situation with a sense of humour, and cope with sharing a very small space with others and all their belongings, then it provides a good base for great days out in the hills. I was lucky with fellow room-mates, and met some lovely people, but would suggest ear-plugs and an eye-mask! Accessible via bus from Keswick, currently £2 – ask for Scales. I'm not sure how easy it would have been to get a bus back into Keswick though, as there didn't seem to be an official bus stop, and walkers' cars were parked in the lay-by that would have been the obvious place for a bus to pull in on a busy road.

The kitchen facilities could do with a refresh, especially the frying pans and utensils. However, I was able to prepare my food without too much trouble.

Amazing location, great price for the bunkhouse. The pub was fantastic, with superb food and very friendly and helpful staff.

So hot in the dorm at night. It’s great to not be cold, very generous, but too hot with radiators on a night timer.

Functional and affordable in a good location with choices of cooking in the connected kitchen or eating in the pub.

Lack of plugs to charge devices. Very small kitchen to prepare food in. More hooks in the bathroom, shower room would be helpful.

Maybe a bit cleaner common areas and lower bunk bed could do with a bit more od head height space( to be able to sit straight)

Good location, friendly staff, very comfy mattress. Great food at the pub, not cheap, but worth it.

The bunkhouse rooms were very small especially to accommodate 4 adults. Very little space making it impossible for four canoeists to change inside at the same time. Also, there was no dry room which is a serious omission and would have been terrible had the weather been continuously wet. The showers were excellent but no stools provided on which to sit or place clothes.

The bunkhouse was part of the White Horse Inn which was excellent, serving top quality food and superb real ales at very fair prices. The staff were brilliant.

Limited plug sockets in the room. Walls thin and could hear people in adjoining rooms. As a male on my own I was uncomfortable sharing the toilet/shower room with everyone else (women and children). Got in there early to avoid!

It’s a bunkhouse and you get what you pay for - for me, on my own with my dog and a walk up Blencathra it was perfect. Very comfortable bed and heating worked well in the room. If you’re happy with basic I would recommend and would stay again.

You have to bring your own bedding or rent it for 5 pounds.

The food in the pub was delicious and allergen friendly. The rooms were warm and comfortable and stayed dry despite the constant rain. While we didn't take advantage of the kitchen, that's a great benefit as well.

The only negative was the check-in/bar staff who were extremely rude.

Good atmosphere. Seems to be used by regular hikers/climbers who after work on a Friday set off for the White Horse to be used as a pit stop/base camp for early Saturday morning ascents. The facilities were clean and the room was warm. The bathroom and kitchen were also of a good standard. For the price paid I'd 100% recommend.

Got quite hot on the plastic backed mattresses, pillows were quite hard. A66 was noisy quite a lot of the night, even with earplugs. Would still stay there again though due to all the positives.

Showers are hot and powerful, rooms are toasty warm, good dining space, easy access straight up to the fells, and there's the pub if you don't fancy cooking (lunch was great!)
