Only issue we had was that there was no air conditioning so the bedroom was stuffy. We were advised not to open the windows as risk of midges entering. There was a message to call reception in case of need, however the night porter never answered the phone. Other family members had the same problem with no response, which was reported to the management when checking out.

Great location, helpful staff and good food. Also a plus that breakfast is served until 10h45, a rare occurrence and very welcome as we had a hectic schedule.

Breakfast options very poor. Only allowed 1 hot food dish each off a poor breakfast selection. If you wanted an extra hot food option, you had to pay for it. Coffee machine broke down yesterday (Sunday) so we were given Americano coffee. Breakfast service very poor today (Monday). Still only given Americano coffee today and I had to go and find someone to take our breakfast order as they took so long to come to us, and when my full English arrived, the bacon was hard and not crispy. Fried tomato looked under done, so I ended up wasting a lot of breakfast today. Main meals were lovely, but not cheap (£42 for a sirloin steak?! No thanks.

Hotel needs maintenance. Seats ripped and looking a bit shabby compared to 7 years ago when I last stayed. Bathroom door was warped from a flood and needed fixing. Wasn't quite as clean as expected. Seemed to be lack of maintenance staff. No staff in pool area at night, so the changing room was messy, and steam room was broken. No explanation or notice to say why. Informed reception and they knew nothing about it. The focus seems to be on the new Holt spa instead.

Decor is lovely and food was nice. Staff were excellent and very friendly and helpful.

I thought I was getting a room with a view and what we got was a view of the top of conservatory, on the day of our stay I received an email saying we could upgrade the room for £10 which I would have done. But I couldn’t get onto the guest WiFi so never saw the email, why didn’t someone mention this at reception. It was a treat for myself and my wife as we both turned 60 and this spoilt the trip a little.

The actual hotel was great and staff were fantastic.

The hotel is full of character which we loved but , some parts look a little tired. Our room was on a narrow corridor at the end, in early hours of the morning inconsiderate guests were making loud noises, banging doors, having conversations right outside our door, loud enough to wake me up. Beds are firm, not to my liking.

The hotel is in a beautiful spot, a short walk to Windermere lakeside. It is clean and the staff are welcoming. We had air con in the room. Free parking for guests.

The only criticism we have is how warm the room was. Obviously nobody can control nor be blamed for the warm, close weather, but there was an air conditioning unit on the wall in our room with a notice to say it was out of use.

Fabulous location, setting and surroundings. First impressions were great. Check in was smooth and quick. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. Everywhere is clean and tidy, decorated tastefully and all in theme. We upgraded to use the thermal spa & gardens, definitely worth the extra and made our stay that little bit more special and relaxing. Big thanks to Genie (sorry not sure if her name is spelled correctly), she is an asset to the staff team at the spa; so lovely, pleasant and happy in her role and nothing was too much trouble for her. Our room was a good size, comfortable bed and good bathroom.

Steam room and then whirlpool were out of order. Poor lighting in room and bathroom made it difficult to do makeup. Duvet had been washed but not shaken out so was lumpy (mentioned to hotel on departure). Not sure we stayed in a fabulous room as booked, photos looked more like a (cheaper) lovely room. Unless photos on booking.com are mixed up. Room was fine but standard hotel room, not as special as photos implied, or had hoped.

The rooms were a bit on the tired side, the mattress was well past the point of needing replacing, and the window shutters were useless at keeping the morning light out.

The food in the restaurant was exceptional, the staff in the hotel were fantastic, very friendly and extremely helpful. The spa was very good, great facilities and incredibly relaxing.
