Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe managed, but would have appreciated prior warning that the lift was not working during the duration of our stay and beyond (as we later discovered). We consider this is something that could have caused difficulty and embarrassment to some visitors who were, like us, unaware of this fact. We were certainly not made aware of this when making our reservation, although we understood it was in fact a few weeks of routine maintenance being undertaken.
The staff were all charming and efficient. The continental breakfast was outstanding and set us up for the day! Our room was quite warm but very comfortable and we were thrilled to have been upgraded 😊This hotel was absolutely perfectly situated for our stay enabling us to attend a Cathedral Service, a couple of local restaurants and Chichester Festival Theatre all on foot, without moving the car once!

United KingdomArrangements in the car park, some people had parked where there were no proper spaces which made entry and exit hazardous. Someone was smoking on the second floor.
Elegance of the hotel, facilities in the room, excellent bathroom, bath as well as shower, spa facilities, central for theatre and town, friendly and helpful staff.

United KingdomI failed to understand that the stairs in the cottage were very steep, and crossing the minute landing to the bathroom at night was a little hairy. We are in our 70s, and had not appreciated the situation. However, it was fine, not a problem, but for many people of our age, or who are less mobile, it could be. It could be good to make this clearer on the site, or maybe I missed it. Parking was great but I suspect could be an issue if you arrived late. As the heating apparently is not put on until 6.30pm, it could be chilly in the winter. There were a couple of very minor issues which I brought up with reception, and they were most helpful.
Very pleasant staff and very helpful. We were allowed into the car park just before three, given a warm welcome and shown to our "cottage". This was a special treat to be completely independent. The cottage was cosy and just opposite a lovely park. The bed was large and very comfortable. There was tea and coffee and we were offered fresh milk. It was nicely furnished and decorated. Breakfast was good, the seating was comfortable and there was plenty of space.

United KingdomOur room 8 may have been near a boiler? It fired up regularly during the night and sounded like a loud car engine, the reverberation was really uncomfortable and very annoying. I think I fell asleep about 4 am simply due to exhaustion. Bathroom was lovely but the extractor fan didn't work.
Room was comfy and we were very appreciative of the upgrade. Gorgeous building and great staff. Central location was amazing.

SwitzerlandThe bed was too soft and wobbly for me. Thin walls - could here everything from my room neighbours (means really everything 🙈) although they were not especially noisy
Lovely room, big bathroom, friendly staff, unusual: free Gin on the room, unfortunately I'm not a Gin lover 🥴😂

United KingdomWas disappointed not to have a cooked breakfast - it was VERY unclear when we booked if breakfast was included in the price (it turns out it wasn’t which in my experience is very unusual) and on top of that when we asked for a cooked breakfast were told we had only booked a £12 breakfast which didn’t include cooked. Maybe because we booked through secret escapes it wasn’t made clear?

SpainThe continental breakfast was expensive for what was available. Although complimentary spa was available, we were only there for a weekend and when we wanted to use it, there had been a leak so we weren´t able to have use of this facility. We did not complain but no allowances were made to discount this from our stay or compensate in any way. No hairdryer in the room available. Hotel parking facility was offered but was full during our whole stay so we were unable to use this and paid for street parking. Again, not compensated for this. Facilities were offered that were not available to us during our stay.
The cooked breakfast was nice. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The dinner was delicious and service great. The location was amazing. the room was very comfortable and clean. The complimentary Gin in the room is a very nice touch. Tammy the receptionist was very helpful pre arrival and during our stay.
