I arrived on Saturday evening, expecting to eat at the Hotel, which I knew had a restaurant. The receptionist appeared to think I should somehow have known that the restaurant is not open at weekends! I indicated that I would like breakfast the following day and no attempt was made to inform me of the bizarre procedure for breakfast on Sundays, neither was this information in the room in printed form. Consequently, I went into the dining area expecting the type of arrangement one might get at any hotel up and down the country and after a considerable wait, went to the reception desk where Ella was on duty and very kindly brought me a breakfast tray, which was quite stupendous. It was a pity that she had to go to such trouble which would not have been necessary had the receptionist on the desk on the previous night taken the trouble to explain the arrangements to me!

The wonderful and efficient young lady named Ella (or Ellie?) who procured me such a magnificent breakfast (see below for complaints about the Sunday breakfast arrangements!) The comfortable, well-appointed room and comfortable bed. The efficiency of the young ladies who served the sandwiches for lunch on Sunday. The Conference which I had convened went smoothly and was very successful.

We weren’t in a great position so it was rather noisy with people coming in during the early hours and going out for breakfast. While the room was clean and fairly comfortable it was a little tired looking.

Breakfast. Breakfast meant to finish at 9.30 we went before 9am. The restaurant was dirty and there was no food. Managed to have some basic food that's it. Everything was finished. Should have a better planning of the amount of food for all costumers have breakfast.

The fact that when we booked into the hotel neither of the reception staff bothered to mention that the hotel was unable to provide any meals that evening. We only found out from the bar staff much later that they weren't serving food that evening.

There was a smell of drains in the hotel reception and corridors. Luckily not in the room.

General maintenance lets the property down, shabby decor, poor electrics, dirty carpets, dirty shower, stains on the walls in the bedroom. Promotes upgrades for The White Company goods, yet these were empty or watered down with nothing to use. Always only one towel when we’ve stayed, knowing there are two of us, on both occasion we’ve stayed. Desk lamps have not worked in either room and recognised this to be a socket issue. Bedside lamps also buzzed and flickered when turning on. Remote control didn’t work, only buttons 2, 5 and 8 worked - nothing else. Remote was replaced by reception staff and we were also provided with additional towels when requested. It’s sad to walk into a musty smelling hotel when there is far better up the road for a little more cost. No restaurant meals were available when we arrived at teatime, but we loved the recommendation of The Bluebird Inn and will stay there in future.

I stay here quite often and I like the hotel but on this occasion the fire alarm interupted sleep on 3 occasions during the night, including 4am which made it very difficult to have quality rest.
