Would have been nice if there had been a 'proper' residents lounge, and not just a table and a couple of chairs.

Location of the hotel is very good, and the room had a fantastic view.

The put two single mattresses together for a double bed which for a couple was a bit uncomfortable. i would suggest putting a double mattress at least. No free parking but i get it its a touristic site so probabaly all the hotels are the same.

The staff was really friendly, amazing location, the view from our room was the best.

Skye is overrated and Portree is far too busy, no longer able to cope with the huge amount of tourists flocking there. It's an unpleasant place to visit as you'd spend your time looking for a table in a restaurant or a free parking space. This hotel has only eight parking spaces in an already overcrowded town. One night, I had to park my car a fifteen minute walk away. The Royal is fine for bus tours or walkers, but not any use for visitors with cars. Although the hotel was generally good, it was vastly overpriced, but Portree is a tourist trap and the local businesses get away with charging exorbitant rates. The hotel, for all its positive points, was certainly not worth £480 for two nights!

Centrally located for those visiting Portree. The room was spacious and comfortable, the staff were pleasant and the breakfast was good.

The breakfast was just OK. The Room was just OK - we would rate this a 2 1/2, barely a 3 star. Other than the staff seemed annoyed and unhappy except Sunday morning breakfast server. Not enough staff, but we understand that some places can not keep up with volume of tourists.

    The location was terrific.

The only way to control the heat in the room was to open the windows. That meant all the street noise was loud. The place is dated and while some might find the bathroom sink with its separate taps charming, I couldn't find a way to get warm (not boiling) water to wash my face.

The view from our windows was excellent. The breakfast was one of the best ever! The wait staff was very attentive to my allergies and made sure everything was safe for me to eat (Thank YOU guys!)

Cooked breakfast was very good for the price, but better presentation of the buffet wouldn't go amiss. In particular, there were practical issues with toast which was just bags of brown and white sliced bread left out for guests to dive their hands in the bag and pull out slices to put in the toaster. Decided not to have toast when I saw a child wipe their snotty nose with their hands and then put their hand in the bread bag to pull some out. Baskets and tongs please! Better coffee would be nice too. Would have a more welcoming feel if the number of (not particularly passive) aggressive notices around the place aimed at both staff and customers were dialled back a bit, not reflected in our interactions with staff who were all lovely.

Room was good. Maybe a little dated, but to be expected in such an old building and everything was clean and worked properly. Location was the best in Portree. Staff were more friendly than the notices may imply, food was good, and reasonable value.

Honestly, not all that “royal” - it was decent. Basic, but not fancy. The beds were ok, but there was a dinginess to the overall facilities and an odd musty smell through the hallways. May just be due to the age of the building and being by the sea. Who knows?
