Had to change rooms due a roof leak shorting out the the lighting circuit on the floor I was originally on. Not the hotels fault and the staff were quick to sort the issue out

Expensive use of the rooms available for the Knights Templar. They have been loyal over the years but the costs make it difficult to continue !

Floors were a bit creaky (but guess that comes with the age of the property). TV a bit small for the size of the room.

Lack of good toiletries in bathroom. Not nice using a wall fixed hand soap and it isn't good having a blend of shower gel and shampoo and no conditioner.

The restaurant was disappointing. We waited c. 40 mins for the wine to arrive and the rose turned out to be white wine. 45 mins after ordering the food we were told the starter had been spoiled and they had no more! The main course arrived after another 10 mins. I don’t think we’d try the restaurant again.

When we booked earlier in the year we had confirmation that breakfast was £7.99 per person per day when we paid on arrival we were told that that price was a mistake and it was actually £12 per person per day, I told them that I had it in black and white on a email but they just kept saying it was wrong and they would be taking it up with booking .com. I complained that it was the price we had been given but they would not accept the mistake which I think if we took it to trading standards they would find it correct in our favour, this really needs to be sorted as it's wrong that they would not honour the mistake which they should've done. So I was very disappointed to say the least!!

The décor is somewhat dated and Wifi / 4G signal connectivity was challenging

as it’s an old building it is a little date and smells a little. There was a bit of mould in the bathroom.

The main building is lovely and the way it was dress for Christmas was fabulous. The rooms were very spacious. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were really friendly and helpful

Well firstly let me say we only paid £85 for the night. On first inspection the room looked very, very tired. There were stains on the carpet not one piece of wooden furniture matched, they were all very distressed looking and I don't think that was deliberate! The shower, although wonderful in its operation, was well past its sell by. By this I mean the cubicle itself the surround was shabby and dirty. The bedroom itself had water stains in several places, some of the walls were in need of painting properly, by that I mean there were patches that had missed the roller! Loose handles, missing "knobs"all added to the stabbings of the room. It is a real shame as the hotel is wonderful downstairs, just like the hotel I remembered from previous visits. It all needs money a lot of money, spending on it, but it would be worth it. The location is fantastic, the building oozes class, but as soon as you start to climb the stairs the lack of investment is very apparent.

The shower was as good as anything I have used in a hotel anywhere. The bed was very comfortable and we had a lovely nights sleep
