Be aware they are closed on a Monday and Tuesday (they did warn us about this when we booked), but lots of other pubs and restaurants around the area are closed those days too so it can be quite difficult to find somewhere to eat in the evenings.

The rooms were lovely, modern and clean (cleaner in there everyday), the bed was really comfortable and the staff were so and accommodating and friendly! The restaurant exceeded our expectations with different specials everyday.

Gorgeous & spacious room. The staff were really lovely and friendly. We had our chihuahua with us and they all made a fuss of him which he loves! The food was beautiful too. We would definitely stay here again.

Breakfast was lovely but but butter should've been offered for the sourdough toast.

Location was good for a gateway to the lake district. Room was very clean and spacious and staff were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our evening meal at the property but drinks were more on the pricier side.

No food or drinks Tuesday evening (Mondays also). But the owner had taken the trouble to contact us to explain and offer alternatives the day before we arrived. Nearby Cockermouth also had many pubs closed or not serving food after 1930 however we didnt starve and had a take away fish n chips.

Large comfy bed, large shower and bathroom. Quiet location. Staff. Food. We enjoyed the resturant on Weds evening, as well as the nornal menu there was a selection of 'pie and pint' specials which I very much enjoyed. Nice locally brewed real ales too. Happy to stay again when if in the area.

The whole experience of our stay was 2nd to none. The place has undergone total refurbishment and has been completed to a very high standard. Our room was immaculate, the bathroom was very spacious and fitted out to a high standard.

We had a great weekend away in the Lakes at this lovely place! Our room was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfortable and the facilities were great (lovely hot shower, nice tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron and ironing board). The staff are super friendly and helpful. The breakfast was very nice - it’s table service which I really liked as I’m not a huge fan of breakfast buffets. We ate in the restaurant on Saturday night and it was the best meal we’ve had in a very long time :). We brought our dog and she was able to sit with us at breakfast & tea. The area itself is very quiet and peaceful (which is exactly what we were after). I was a bit worried about our room being above a pub incase it was noisy, however we didn’t hear a peep and slept really well. We’d love to return!

the smoking area at the front of the hotel was below our bedroom so we couldn't open the windows as the smoke drifted in as non smokers we found it unpleasant..

location was great easy travel to areas we wanted to visit.staff were very helpful and nothing was a bother to them. Rooms were spacious and welcoming beds were very comfortable and pillows were brilliant ..If you're going to eat in the restaurant you won't be disappointed food was excellent and well presented the waiting staff and manager were great ..we will definitely be back..
