A great pub stay-over in a beautiful location with excellent food and beer.

Room was a little tight (to be expected given the age of the building) and the room also had a smell of cats, also to be expected given that there were a handful of beautiful cats sharing the hotel with us.

The staff were very friendly (especially Tommy). The food and drinks were excellent and the location and including the garden were beautiful. Some excellent walking from right out of the pub with great scenery and peace and quiet.

We got the last room left and possibly the smallest, but we did know it was just a double, but the pillows were very hard and made it difficult to sleep, i eventually made a pillow from the bed throw.

Location excellent, beautiful surroundings. Continental breakfast was good with a nice range of food. Pleased there was decaf tea/coffee at breakfast and in the bedroom Bar and range of beers v good, food good, staff much friendlier than previous owners. Last visited 2020. Live music v good, the Mortal Men.

    All good

The location is wonderful in the small, quiet village of Troutbeck which is a great starting point to get to many of the lovely sights and mountains of the Lake District - It is very close to Ambleside but Kendal is less than half an hour away and the Kirkstone Pass to Ullswater about 10 minutes away. It is family run and it feels like that - very friendly and warm. Our bedroom which was number 12 was lovely with great views and a great Jacuzzi bath!

We had a room. With a fire exit through it. Didn't feel secure although no problems at hotel

The house keepers didn't replace used towels with sufficient (they only left one set when there were two of us). I would expect the bed to be made properly for the second night. The towels were sorted out very promptly.

Wonderful room (we had the four poster). Amazing location. Great bar and food. The staff on reception and in the bar/restaurant couldn't do enough for us.

Only when we came down for breakfast and no tables had been cleared for us to have breakfast, we moved bowls, mugs etc.. to another full table so we could have breakfast however no one came to provide clean mugs, bowls, bread for the toaster , we walked around for a while but couldn't find anyone. We pressed the bell on reception and no one came. We decided to leave it and check out however waited another 20 minutes of which no one came to check us out therefore left the key on the desk. Real shame as everything was perfect.

The bedroom was lovely, immaculate the hotel decor was gorgeous and the beds were extremely comfy . The staff were super friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The loos in the pub are a bit smelly. Rooms can be a tiny bit cold if you’re there in deep winter.

This a gorgeous old inn in a delightful location. The staff are absolutely charming, the pub/restaurant is a very merry and cosy and serves lovely hearty local fare and a great selection of ales. The inn is gorgeously situated on the edge of Troutbeck with a view of Windermere and some spectacular hikes nearby, Froswick and Wansfell in particular.

Rooms were basic but comfortable. If I’m being super picky, could’ve done with a few extra sockets (only one in the room if watching TV). However clean and warm.

Location is outstanding, very secluded and with spectacular views. The food is excellent, would suggest booking ahead as it gets very busy! Complimentary continental breakfast was very good too.
