Unfortunately they were having wifi issues, but that’s not why we were there so it didn’t affect us terribly. The floors/ceilings/walls are a bit thin and/or old - the couple above us had a rather prolonged and aggressive row in the wee hours of the morning shortly after arriving, and we heard eeeeverything (if by some of chance those people read this - please get counseling). I don’t fault the hotel for this at all, but once things quieted down (one of the parties left), I found I could hear each normal footstep and pronounced snoring (which means it’s likely they would have heard my and my boyfriends snoring from below).

We were looking for something out of the way to just relax for the night away from home. The road was a little more main than I realized (as evidenced by the very loud motorcycles that pulled in at 9am), but overall it was a good fit. The suite had a lovely view. It’s a shame it rained, it’s would have been lovely to sit out on the terrace. The checking in and out were very easy (almost too easy - if I had been alone, I would have been a bit unnerved by the fact that it’s completely unmanned and not all that secure, but it does say that in the description).

We stayed for 2 nights/ 3 days. Room was ready on arrival, but, on or second day the room was not refreshed so no tea bags/ coffee/ cups/ toilet roll , etc replaced!

No staff. Key cards left in hallway for check in with welcome letter. Advised breakfast would be served in morning at 9am but no details and not included in price. Arrived back at accommodation after wedding party and couldn’t get into corridor that accessed our room, along with several other guests. No answer from number of duty manager. Eventually one other guest found a way in via the cafe area.

Lovely room , looked new, very clean. Comfy bed, nice bathroom with complimentary toiletries. Shuffle bus provided for return to accommodation after wedding party at Cefn Tilla court.

Normal Room - initial impression good, but (aside from the toilet issue) it soon became apparent that there are many flaws. The bathroom door does not fit properly - either has to be left open or forced closed. The towel ring by the basin fell off the wall as soon as we touched it ! The soap dish to the left of the sink threatened to fall off also (located in a completely useless position - if you did put soap on it it would have dripped all over the floor). We didn't understand the mix of old style shower unit and modern washbasin - almost as if items meant for two different rooms were mixed up. Most horizontal surfaces (bed and bathrooms) were quite grubby. Bed was very hard. Plus points were a working extractor fan and a proper opening window in the bathroom and the really smart wardrobe unit just inside the room. The Suite - initial impression was again positive, but it quickly became apparent that it is just a bigger version of a normal room with addition of the seating area, which was comfortable (although the TV is mounted far too high up for easy viewing). It was a great shame that someone (furniture installers ?) ad taken several big chunks out of the bottom track to the patio door. Also lots of indications of poor workmanship in the finish, particularly in the bathroom which aren't likely to stand up well to continual use, eg. unfinished MDF moulding strip above the sink - bound to get wet and likely to quickly deteriorate. The 'cold' tap on the basin was never cold and always quite warm or very warm. The hot tap was usually too hot.... and the reverse installation issue to the other - modern shower and period sink/taps. The toilet flush was extremely flaky. The most significant issue with the bathroom, however, is that it is an entirely internal space with neither a window nor any extractor fan. So not marvellous !

The location is very convenient for Usk and the surrounding areas. The view from the back of the building across open farmland and countryside. We greatly appreciated the response to an issue with poor bathroom cleanliness in the initial upstairs room. It was too late in the evening when discovered to address immediately but the manager was clearly very keen to try and resolve satisfactorily when she came to see us the next morning in response to our email. As a result we were moved to the much larger Suite downstairs. This looked impressive at first sight, but in fact turned out to be essentially the same as the first room, just bigger. There were also some issues which are mentioned below. Breakfast (good but only cooked food) can be obtained at extra cost at the colocated, but separately run, Wendy's cafe. This only opens at 9am and was closed without prior warning on our 3rd morning which created a problem. The relationship between The Lodge accomodation and Wendy's needs to be much more clearly stated up front.

Freezing cold in the room and unable to turn the radiator on. There is no reception/front desk. We tried calling the phone number provided for help around 5pm but no answer. Bar not open. No milk alternatives available at breakfast. Dead flies in the bathroom. Shower very weak and broken handle on door

Easy to find. Bed was small (standard double) but very comfortable. Check in was easy (key left on desk in foyer)

Only thing I’d mention was it was extremely hot as the heating came on which it fine..but we were not able to turn the temp down on the radiator when we did, even if switched to 0 it was still on. Got quite hot during the night. Only minor

Thr bed was incredibly uncomfortable with it only being a very thin mattress.

The location suited where we needed to be close to, there's a lovley cafe downstairs that served breakfast through to dinner. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean and well maintained
