The room was very cold when we arrived and took a long time to warm up. The 8-9am breakfast time limit seemed very short and early for a weekend.

The breakfast was substantial and there were alternative milks. But there was no fresh fruit. I don’t really like big cooked breakfasts, but they made me delicious scrambled eggs. The room we had was large, and there was plenty of hot water for a bath. The radiators were hot and so wet shoes and clothes could be dried.

The rooms are comfortable, although the room we stayed in was an external "cottage" which was cold despite switching the thermostat up as the bathroom is large and unheated. The blinds were not enough to stop the external security motion light from flicking through all night long, so a scarf was used to cover the edges. Lastly the cups provided in room for coffee tea and water were disposable which we were surprised to see. Despite staying for 6 days our towels and room supplies weren't restocked and having to queue and ask at the bar for more toilet roll wasn't ideal.

The location is excellent being central to Hathersage. Breakfast was a good buffet style start to the day although we did miss having a glass of cold water as only hot water coffee and juice is available. Having an external room with your own key is nice. Being able to bring our dog next time is great.

The floors in the bedroom haven't been installed properly, so there are random large gaps in the laminate. The pillows are too large and firm, so it's very hard to sleep in a comfortable position. When we checked out, there was no one around, so we weren't sure what to do. We put our keys behind the bar, and then someone arrived, so we explained what we did. They said great, so we figured it was alright? Finally the bathrooms in the restaurant are terribly filthy.

The bedrooms were so beautiful, and so clean. The mattress was very comfy! Breakfast was very tasty and served nicely the next morning. Friendly staff!

The bathroom was not as clean as it should be. Hairs and dust all the way around the edge of the floor and black stained silicone in the shower.

No cloths in Squire Cottage although I'm sure if we'd asked they would have given us some. Made the washing up a bit tricky. But the kitchen was well equipped so no complaints really. Maybe a fly issue. Few dead ones around the cottage but otherwise really clean.

Lovely service behind the bar. Happy to look after our bags while we went walking. Excellent location. 5 mins walk to the station. Good beers. Comfortable accommodation.

The thing that was disappointing before we went was I emailed the hotel 3 times to ask them something as I had phoned a few times before emailing, to talk to someone who could help me but was told to phone back another time. After the 3 emails I did finally get the reply. We also didn’t get our rooms near each other which we requested, they ended up being in 2 completely different buildings. What let the hotel down was the lack of organisation with admin.

We had a 3 course evening meal from their Christmas Menu which was really good. Very good portions and very good value for money. Staff we met were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast which was included in the room price was excellent. All in all we felt it was all good value for money.

A bedside light for both sides of the double bed would be a bonus. A less fiddly door lock to our room.

The room was large & comfortable, bed clean, fresh and comfy. Nice big shower ensuite. Breakfast very good, a wide selection of cereal, yoghurts and lovely fresh blueberries along side plenty of good quality sausage, bacon, mushrooms etc and special mention to the perfect poached eggs! The real ale and great bar food, in a friendly lively bar which had lots of space, multiple multi-fuel stoves kicking out lots of heat made for a couple of very enjoyable evenings.
