Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomA 16th century coaching house set next to the River Tees and short walking distance from the Roman fort and bridge. The inn is loaded with history and the inside reflects this with beams on the ceiling, steps outside that lead to nowhere, the infamous grandfather clock and a huge ballroom at one end. The bedroom was the largest we've ever stayed in, although parts were showing it's age which is to be expected with such a historical building, it offered everything we could want, iron and ironing board in the cupboard, stands to put your suitcase on, a large walk in shower with complimentary shampoo, conditioner and bodywash, and most importantly tea and coffee making facilities. We had an evening meal in the bar area and the food was really good (homemade sausage & mash), the staff were friendly and attentive and made you feel at home. There was plenty of parking either across the road or in front of the inn itself. Our bedroom overlooked the road and was surprisingly quiet, but seeing as the walls are really thick and the windows had secondary glazing it wasn't surprising it was quiet. I would like to mention that if you're after looking for things that go bump in the night, be prepared.... I spoke to the Manager who said go have a look in the ballroom, so off me and the wife go, it's dimly lit and the ballroom is pitch black, so as i walk up to the glass doors they suddenly open! Talk about jump, i nearly lost the small cup of milk i was carrying!! There stood one of the bar staff, she'd just been to collect something and was on her way back to the bar... So now i had her and my wife laughing their heads off and me suffering a mild heart attack... Anyways we had a great couple of nights and we will be back again

United KingdomThere was a horrible creaky floor above our room and the occupant was up all night. This did effect our sleep. A few cobwebs in the room loose it a couple point for cleanliness but otherwise, perfect.
The location was stunning. Will be back in summer to make the most of the location on a lighter night. The cost was great. Meal and bar prices totally acceptable. Room was on a par if not slightly better than a Premier inn.

United KingdomMy room was a little cool but couldn’t find a thermostat to switch on the radiator. However once in bed it was cosy.
Great location near A1M. Nice friendly staff and my room was actually a two bed apartment. I liked being able to park right outside my door. The food was good and a nice selection of beers & wine. The bed was very comfortable and the bed linen nice and white and crisp.

United KingdomI understand it is a very old building but the place needs a freshen up with regards to decor, carpets etc. There are no taxi services nearby, all mostly coming from Darlington so don't expect to be able to order one without it being well in advance. Even though it was a Saturday night, the bar was almost empty.
The room was good for what we paid. Location was ideal for what we wanted, although it's a short drive to the nearest shop. Staff were polite and bar area was good.

United KingdomThere wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
It’s a wonderful location right on the banks of the river Tees. We had a room in the main building and a family member had one of the cottages. Both were very good. Well looked after and clean. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and well presented.
