Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe house was dirty, the kitchen cutlery was dirty in the drawer. The wiring is surface mounted- is that safe ? The decor is old. The bedding is worn.- Its a student house not a vacation home. The garden is unkempt. They took £10 from my deposit for my dog - even though it is a pet friendly house and a charge isn't disclosed in their advert
Location only.

United KingdomWell if you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a slum, under a slum lord, look no further. Advertised as "family friendly" when we arrived at the accommodation we discovered: The entire house absolutely REEKED with cigarette smoke smell. Its in the carpets and the curtains. We told the company and they sent the cleaner over with some plug in air freshener. It was a nice idea but didn't really get rid of the smell just kind of added another layer on top. The dishwasher had been disconnected and were told it wasn't working. OK it would be nice if you put that in the description, but OK. After buying a fridge FULL of food to last us for the 10days, the fridge in fact doesn't work either: ALL the food went bad. Over Easter. Told the management company (no access to the slum lord) based in the Philippines. The oven doesn't work: bottom oven completely broken and top oven is intermittent. Well all our food is spoiled anyway but it does mean that we have to eat out for EVERY meal. Sigh. We can still boil and fry things on the hob! Here's the kicker; when the kitchen got too smelly my husband tried to turn on the extractor fan: the entire thing fell off the wall, smashed on to the pot of boiling water and sent both flying. My 1 and 4 yr old were inches away from getting scalded. We are so angry by this point. "Go to the garden to play while I clean up kids" They come back with handfuls of broken glass! WTF the entire garden in scattered about with shards of broken glass! The one sofa has a broken leg so you can't sit on it. Here's what makes it a true turn of the century slum experience: the absolute lack of care. This REEKS of someone who bought cheap and is milking the property for all its worth, unwilling to spend ANY money on maintenance. They sent the cleaner over a few times and she and her husband tried to source a fridge for our last few days of our two week stay.
The only thing good about this place is the location

PhilippinesWhen we checked in before we even got all our bags out of the car, the neighbor promptly told us that the area is residential and in not so many words, we are not to be noisy. The check-in is 6 PM; the check out is 10 AM and 10 minutes before that, the host is knocking on the door to remind us to leave at 10 AM. We were on our way out but it was a first for all 4 of us to be chased out of an accommodation; We inspected the apartment with the host and all was clear, however, the deposit of 250 GBP was not returned immediately - 10 days after we checked out, I have not received the refund of my deposit. I've been traveling for more than a decade - first time I encountered all these. Do they even want to lease out the place?
Location is about a 2 minute walk (just around the corner) to restaurants, groceries; walking distance (about 10 minutes) to tourist destinations such as The Roman Baths, Jane Austen Centre. The apartment can easily fit 8 people with its 4 bedrooms, 3 full double beds and 2 twins.
