Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomMaybe the mattress in the bedroom could do with replacing. On the main road, so it was a little noisy.
Easy to find. Good proximity to the town centre. Well stocked kitchen, very clean and enjoyed the jacuzzi bath.

United KingdomThe bath towels and robes were small, the bath 'mat' was uncomfortable and quite awkward to stand on, and the bath was very difficult and slippy to get out of, plus the shower head was broken in the main bathroom. There was also a persistent banging noise, which may have been the boiler?
Breakfast was very good, and the staff were friendly and polite. Beds were comfortable and the place was very clean.

United KingdomThis is purely a personal comment and most people probably wouldn't have a problem, but being a little older and with the ravages of time affecting hips and knees, we found the bed a little soft and a little too low for comfort. It is the only criticism though.
What a lovely welcome we received at The Cottage at the Retreat! The cottage itself was a cool sanctuary from the heat, well equipped kitchen, comfortable sofa, big TV, and the shower and the bath were just perfect. Very convenient for the town and the supermarket.....and for a massage at The Retreat!

United KingdomAbsolutely nothing we didn't like. It was wonderful.
The cottage was absolutely spotless and really comfortable. After an exhausting day at Alton Towers it was amazing to stay somewhere we could genuinely relax. Plenty of places to eat locally but we chose to pop to the local supermarket (which is a 2 minute drive away) and get some tapas to put in the oven. Jacuzzi bath was absolutely heavenly and the beds were incredibly comfortable. My only regret is that we were only there for 1 night!!

United KingdomI mistakenly assumed there would be a garden at somewhere called The Cottage, so on the outside it was more industrial looking than expected. It also took us a while to realise which building was The Cottage and which was the correct car park - we spent some time trying to find the keys near the door of The Retreat building, thinking that was The Cottage and realised we had parked on the higher level when we should have parked level with the road. These details may well have been signed but we arrived in driving rain xnd may have missed the signs. Also we were worried that if we did not leave by the appointed time then the Parking Eye would fine us so that was a bit of stress. A long doormat inside the front door might be helpful as we arrived on a very rainy night and it was difficult to dash in with the bags without wetting the floor.
We originally intended to have breakfast at The Retreat nearby but they are closed on Sundays. The interior of the property is lovely, especially the 2 ensuite bedrooms and the dressing gowns. Lounge comfortable snd cosy with big tv. Parking right outside the building. Host very helpful before and after stay, ringing us to check when they had found an item of forgotten clothing in the Cottage. Coffee sachets were welcome but we really missed filter coffee. If possible, a few kitchen bits such as a little cooking oil and cling film would be useful to help with cooking options on hob or in microwave. The kitchen contained all necessary appliances eg oven snd was a really nice room to use. A hand towel would be useful in there 😀. Overall The Cottage was very good value for money.

The location was great as close to Alton Towers, lovely comfy rooms with en suite bathrooms, especially loved the jacuzzi bath! Loved the little touches with the toiletries, bath robes, milk & ear plugs as next to a main road although we didn’t need them as the traffic didn’t disturb us, in fact we all fell asleep as soon as our heads hit our pillows! I would definitely recommend this cottage & would definitely stay here again if in the area.
