Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe property is very grubby and in need of maintenance throughout. Couldn’t connect to WiFi. The garden view was a far stretch. After a long day of travelling I chose this property as a one stop shop to have dinner shower and rest. On arrival I asked staff what my options are for food. I was offered some take away menus.

United KingdomThe rooms should be upgraded. and the building requires a complete facelift. The bath rooms need to be upgraded to provide shower facilities. The bar facility was adaquate but the live music promised did not exist. The pictures on booking.com have been photoshopped to make the place attractive. The bar has a poor local reputation.
The place was not like the picture on line. It looked as if it was abandoned except there was a note on the door with a phone number to call. We did this and a staff member came to open the building to show us to our rooms. The rooms looked clean enough but the carpets were very worn and decor was tired. The beds were clean and were not uncomfortable . The bath in one room had a shower over it but there was no hot water so impossible to take a shower. In the second room there was a shower cubicle but again no hot water and in fact there was insufficient water pressure to allow a shower to be taken. There was no breakfast but we were aware of this when I booked. Our vehicle was damaged whilst on the car park. we decided to leave as soon as possible the next morning. I think the castlegate arms would be suited to workers without high expectations of more than a bed for the night.

United KingdomWe booked these rooms at the last minute without checking the reviews! Having read the reviews and if we’d had more time we would have booked elsewhere. The building is very drab on the outside, not at all inviting. The bar area was okay, but why have a boxing machine in there, this was a source of entertainment for the group of lads in the bar, but hardly conducive for a quiet drink, no surprise the bar was deserted! The room I was given was the one with the cellar fan rumbling away, which one previous reviewer had complained about. At least the guy who showed me to the room apologised and promised to turn it off at 23:00, which he did. Okay, if you were paying £40 a night you could accept the state of the place, but at nearly double that with no breakfast included, it’s an absolute rip-off. The place needs a major refurbishment throughout, as unlikely as that is to happen. Not a venue I would recommend to anyone.
Comfortable bed, tea & coffee, bottles of water and biscuits in the room. The two guys we met running the bar were pleasant & friendly.

United KingdomThe hotel sent a message after a non refundable booking including the line " there may be some some background noise" Pounding dance music for two hours that woke us up and made the beds vibrate and destroyed our nights sleep leaving myself and my child shattered the next morning. The booking was non refundable and the message downplaying the level of noise arrived after booking was completed. You have no chance of canceling. "There may be some background noise" is the biggest understatement since Robert Oppenheimer's noe made at the end of his maths saying "expect a pop"

United KingdomEverything else. Noise. The photo looks nothing like the place. Bar had run out of beer. You couldn't control the temperature in the shower. I would never recommend this hole to anyone. An absolute rip off, £95 room only, in a crap area. Don't think I will use Booking.com again. Really let down by you. Dreadful. If I had to list what was wrong with the hole I would be here all day. Enough said. Sorry, very disappointed.

United KingdomNever managed to get the shower working properly, but didn't miss it tbh. Carpark isn't the biggest, but got a space both nights
Staff, especially Dani and Hannah were exceptional 👏. Couldn't have asked for anyone friendlier and more helpful. The pub is ideally located in the centre of town, is well laid out inside, with plenty of seating and a pool table. Locals were friendly, and despite it being a weekend, not too raucous - it is a local pub after all. Yes there is music playing until 00:00, but this was turned off afterwards, which was explained at check in. Rooms are simple, but clean and well maintained.
