Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe decor relating to the pictures on the wall of the room was of naked people , which doesn't particularly go with the four poster or history. I thought the pictures could have been more in keeping. I don't particularly want to see pictures of people undressed , not sure why they thought these modern pictures were suitable.
The history of the hotel, location and being able to park . The room was comfortable and quite spacious.

United KingdomThe lights in the room developed a fault which we reported and we were offered another room, but we didn't bother as the lamps were working ok.
The beds are very comfortable and give a good nights sleep. The room was easily accessible for a disability, and the bathroom was big and very clean. The room was of a very good size and very pleasantly decorated. Good facilities in the room, kettle and tea making facilities which is always appreciated. The breakfasts are always of a good quality. Overall the standards of cleanliness are always very good and all the bedding is pristine.

CanadaDinner prices seem very high for a 3 star hotel, parking should be free, rooms are a little rundown.
Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Shower is very nice with good pressure. Location of hotel very central and safe and secure. Breakfast was very nice albeit a little expensive.

United KingdomWe hadn't fully realised the location of the Angel and Royal in the centre of Grantham and were a little put off by some of the noisy patrons who congregated near the courtyard (they do Weddings here too) Breakfast wasn't included and was expensive if we had decided to add on. They did not do brunch on a Sunday.
This was a spur of the moment booking on our drive up to the North of England after an early start from Portugal. We were delighted with the Junior Suite which was far bigger than we expected and a very comfortable and welcome stop to rest. Member of staff on reception was very welcoming and booked us in very quickly. We were very taken with the history of the hotel and the interior architecture. Car park to the rear of the hotel was well signed and managed.

United KingdomBreakfast finished too early, and £15 per person. Most hotels are serving until 10am now. Extra £4 for parking BUT Hotel Rate was very good, so not such a big thing.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The building is 800 years old and we had a large twin room with a fantastic modern bathroom. Tea, Coffee and Hot Chocolate are provided. Also Iron and Board. Nice intimate bar area for a late night last drink. In the centre of town, with everything you could need from pubs, bars, restaurants and takeaway. Great one night stay.

United KingdomCold water pressure in ensuite somewhat low, but hot water excellent and shower worked. This hotel is bursting with history and character, but should not be compared to modern custom-built convenience hotels. It is an historic building without lifts (far as we could see), and decor that reflects its age. We regret not booking dinner before we arrived; no tables left. So had to rely on outside catering; but plenty of choice, so no issue.
Booking in and out = easy. Staff courteous and helpful. Price OK. Room comfy and all appliances worked; iron and ironing board in room. Plenty of hanging and draw space. Square-pin plug sockets at bedside-level, including USB sockets. Modern sizeable smart TV on chest of drawers, though visibility partially obscured by one of the four corner posters! Room clean and tidy.
