Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWasn’t informed before stay that they was upgrading breakfast room, but we was out all day so really didn’t bother us and Sunday it was finished so we could use it, didn’t really like the twin bedroom as it was looking tired so we paid to upgrade, wow.. In the sea view room, my thoughts would be it could do with new carpet and for me I think the mattress is ready for replacing as I could feel something sticking in on my hip, apart from that fantastic
Location was perfect, the staff were exceptional especially Ian on Reception and the young gentleman on breakfast duty Sunday 3/11/24 we changed our twin room as it faced back of hotel and room was a bit tired, we was informed that they are going to upgrade all rooms. We paid for upgrade and got a fabulous room with sea view, room was large nicely done, big queen sized bed so big enough to share with my cousin, bathroom was big had both bath and separate shower, breakfast was good

Nice room, very clean. Carpets could do with being renewed. Door staff had the patience of a saint when a drunk girl caused problems, very respectful.

United KingdomMy stay was spoilt by the huge vans, and commercial vehicles, blocking “the sea view” I had paid for, however I did have a chance to discuss with management and was told , it would be escalated, up the chain. Not heard back yet. and feel I should have been given some discount, not the cheapest place to stay, and it was a treat. In all fairness there are signs on the wall asking commercial vehicles to use other car parks, may be this area needs to be addressed. Breakfast , good lots of choice, a bit cold . Contractors working I. Area do some disturbance .
staff , great, location great. View from my sea view room great until blocked by truck , and transit vans. Bed comfy good quality clean line, ( pillows far too soft for me , but, appreciate you can’t please everyone!! ) quality toiletries a lot of thought ,gone into refurb ok a very old building , lots of up and down stairs, to get to room, but-lift available, and staff offered to help me with luggage. Had dinner in restaurant on 1st night, delicious, and service great, drinks very reasonably. Priced . Second night Tried Italian resuturant on site fabulous and again very well priced Ok it’s a very old building, a bit of noise, from plumbing , but, it’s a hotel, 🤷♂️people are up and about at 6 in the morning, so and we all want a power shower!! No noise from corridors, or neighbouring rooms,

United KingdomWe were kept awake most of the night by the staff below the room talking and laughing. This happened most early mornings too, 6am. The office to reception was directly below our room so try avoiding room 104. The menu in the bar was very limited and the beer was poor. The Doombar was undrinkable.
Location and staff were great. Breakfast was very good. Bed was very comfortable.

United KingdomThe rooms and corridors were 'tired' and definitely needed refurbishment. The room we were allocated (131) was difficult to reach . After going upstairs to the first floor we had to walk down a long corridor and down a flight of stairs to access the room. Fire escape signs were inadequate.
Breakfast was good. Evening meal was good. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Apart from some of the young staff who didn't seem to know what they were doing - more training needed.

United KingdomLots of little things, one not so bad but when you put them all together... 🤷♀️ Floor in Crumbs by the buffet breakfast a little sticky. Swapped my chair in Poetic Licence for one that wasn't in urgent need of re-upholstering. Room was cold and didn't warm up when the radiator was turned up. Bathroom cold too. WiFi was OK at one side of the room, but this place is huge so no idea where the router is in relation to the rooms. Double bed was huge but was actually 2 beds pushed together with a ridge down the middle. Another single bed in the double room. 'Seating area' was a single armchair. Toilet cistern screamed extremely loud when refilling. Old window extractor fan noisy when wind blows. Reception mentioned the rooms were gradually undergoing refurbishment.
Every member of staff we met were fantastic, the decor of Poetic Licence and Crumbs is lovely. Evening meal and breakfast, both very nice. Looking out over Roker Beach during breakfast was perfect. Plenty parking to the rear and good access back to the hotel through the rear so you don't have to walk back to the road. It's a bit of a maze, but you get there in the end.

United KingdomI wouldn't recommend room 137, it was located down 35 steps in the depths of the hotel, along several long corridors and through four doors, with no lift! It had a very noisy drain pipe running down beside the headboard from the rooms above and the view from the window was of the wheels of cars on the carpark. Apart from the position of the room it was clean and comfortable.
Location was excellent and free parking a bonus. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant was also excellent. Very friendly and helpful staff. I would recommend staying at Roker Hotel.
