The bathroom needed some updating. The carpet in the hallway was completely stained.

The room was large and comfortable, the bed was very good.

The unusually pulsating shower and sink in the en suite was quite loud, which may have alerted our neighbouring room occupants to our ablution routine, as it did with us when they showered two hours before our morning alarm was due to wake us.

The Muthu Newton Hotel is just off the A96 Inverness Road with a long driveway to the hotel. It is a relatively short walk from the main town of Nairn if you're fit and able. We were allocated a room in the Courtyard, which is separate from the main building and so not privvy to experience the “hotel life". Our room was very spacious and provided everything we required. Overall, our experience was an enjoyable one and what we had hoped for when booking.

It's not that we didn't like, more of an observation, the breakfasts could be better, from the list of items available we asked for egg, sausage and bacon and that is exactly what we got, 1 item of each. As only 3 items selected a couple of rashes of bacon and 2 sausage wouldn't have gone a miss, although what we had was very tasty and freshly prepared. This would stop me staying at this hotel again.

Free room upgrade was a fabulous surprise and greatly appreciated, the hotel grounds are great, lovely looking hotel, and very friendly staff. We thought the location was good too as we started our NC500 trip at Inverness.

Unfortunately, the stay was marred by daily busloads of American tourists who were noisy and took over the bar area in the evening. We were grateful that the hotel placed them in a separate dining room, but the pile of very large baggage clogged the lift area morning and evening. We understand that this is the hotel's bread and butter, but overall, it would be nice if the hotel could enforce some level of dress and decorum from their guests.

The property itself is elegant, with spacious rooms, well-appointed. You feel transported back to an earlier era from the minute you turn off on the private drive to this former estate home. This is a wonderful refuge from the world in a beautiful setting.

Dark, not exactly warm and welcoming - looks like it only caters to bus tours or conventions. Staff was nice, but not exactly able to provide fantastic service at the front desk. Dining options were overpriced and unappetizing.

We received a complimentary up grade and the room was spacious overlooking the garden. Usual choice for breakfast. We had dinner on two evenings and the food was really good and a nice menu to choose from.

It was a shock coming upon this "castle". Really a beautiful facility. Staff was quite accommodating.

The place is a little dated, but I didn't mind that. it does have an old musty smell that wasn't as pleasant but it isn't too overwhelming.

I liked pretty much everything. It holds special memories for me.

The food was excellent and staff exceptionally friendly and obliging. The room was adequate for my needs indeed very comfortable. I was able to open the window a little. Maybe more windows opening would have been better but it did not put me off. I just get hot.
