Breakfast is only served from 9 am. On the day of departure, this is a little inconvenient, as the room must be vacated by 10 am. There are also quite a few stairs to reach the suite, which might be inconvenient for some people.

The suite was not big, but was spotless and very well laid out. The bathroom was quite large. The breakfast was excellent.

When we arrived our breakfast had been changed to a continental breakfast to be brought to our room. It was a lovely choice we received but the room did not have enough room for us to enjoy it fully… a lot of balancing of plates and cups.

Immaculate. Very comfortable bed. Room was a tight squeeze but fine for an overnight stay.

I found Rooms Above the Sugar Boat by accident, and it’s one of the best accidents I’ve ever had. Central location, above a bustling and friendly restaurant and bar, this place is a wee gem. The rooms are small but perfectly formed, and you can see that a lot of time has gone into the smallest details. As a lone female, I felt very secure with a proper lock and key, I was escorted to my room and had everything I needed to know explained to me. The team were friendly and welcoming, the room comfortable and I had the best sleep in a comfy bed. I left early, so received a lovely continental breakfast to take away with me. I really couldn’t have been happier with my stay here, and look forward to visiting again on my next trip to Helensburgh.

Being above restaurants, there was some noise from extractor systems.

Centrally located in a pleasant square. Room furnishings and decor high quality. Sugar Boat a very nice cafe restaurant which provided great dinner and breakfast.

Housekeeping was a little lacking - when we asked for a room refresh, our bed was made and towels folded but that was it. No clean towels, no clean sheets, no clean cups, tea/coffee wasn't replenished and the carpet wasn't vacuumed. Not sure if we were supposed to be specific beyond the sign on the door, but that wasn't clear if so. The bathroom door could do with a lock! We understand it has to be the barn door style for space but just a wee hook on the inside would be good to hold it. The room was stiflingly hot. We had some warm weather so I guess the room is just well insulated. There was a fan in the room but it was pretty ineffective. It's a tricky thing to fix but maybe a little air conditioning unit would be better than the fan. However we were able to keep the window open so that did help. It's a very small niggle but I would have liked the option of instant coffee. Making a full cafetiere was a bit of a pain when I just wanted a quick coffee. It was a lovely luxury and the coffee was delicious but sometimes I just wanted a quick cup - especially as only one of us drinks coffee! So maybe a couple of sachets of instant would be an idea. I did appreciate having nice coffee available though!

Friendly service, amazing breakfast with a wide range of options, great location. Neat room and we loved that the window opened fully so we could get plenty of fresh air. Lovely tea and coffee selection and appreciated the free tote bag. Staff were really helpful whenever we needed anything. Room was quiet and we liked the separate dedicated entrance. Room was tiny but I was aware of that before booking and it was perfect for our needs. We'd definitely like to return. Didn't get the chance to try out any of the dinner or lunch options this time but plan to next time as the menu looked great and the breakfast was outstanding.

Bit noisy from the music in the bar below. As room was at front, was ear splitting when empty bottles were being tipped into bin. Noise from people coming and going in restaurant at night so windows could be a little more sound proofed.

Bed was super comfy. Pillows too, as I hate foam so these were luxurious. Bathroom was well planned, modern and exceptionally clean
