Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe water pressure in the showers was very low, the rooms were small for 4 people and it was quite expensive (granted there will be an island premium for Arran)
Nice facilities, comfy beds, great that there were lockers to drop our stuff off and a very cosy lounge area

United KingdomThere was a very big downside - one employee had very bad smoking habits which made our stay very miserable. The smell was terrible and his attempts to neutralize it with strong perfume made it even worse. I could manage the mess he was leaving behind, especially in the kitchen, but not the smell.
Excellent location, very good facilities, very clean. I don't like bunk beds but the mattresses were very comfortable. In general, I highly recommend it.

United KingdomI never received the email with the door code. The on site private resident (employee) didn't offer any help until we asked after about 30 minutes of stress.
Excellent kitchen facilities and the comfy lounge plus a dining room were not expected.

United KingdomWe could clearly hear people talking in the room next door, so noisy neighbours could impact sleep.
We bought our food along as it's a hostel setup with good facilities in the kitchen

United KingdomSchoolboy error but forgot to bring shower gel and none was provided in the shower rooms. Would also be good to have somewhere secure to store your bike outside. Not comfortable leaving a £5k bike outside on a bike rack.
Great location and good facilities for a bunkhouse.

United KingdomThe walls are very thin and you can hear everything. There was a guy waking us up at 6:30am, when quiet hours are up to 7am. He was always going to the toilet next to us and one morning he left the tap on??? It's the not fault of the property, but if you really need the rest maybe you need to think about a different type of property
Quite a lot of space in the property. Rooms are small, but the communal areas are good and the kitchen is well equipped. The beds are super comfy

Well hidden and set in the beautiful grounds of Brodick Castle, felt really secluded even though close to the main road.

United KingdomI couldn't get the shower to work in my closest bathroom and had to use one a couple of doors away. The heaters in these shower rooms have no apparent means of turning on and some rooms were too cold. In other respects, the facilities are very good. They are not ensuite.
Good location near to Castle. Excellent basic hostel accommodation. Luckily I had a twin bunk room to myself. The kitchen, dining and lounge areas are excellent. Food storage is well organised.

United KingdomRoom was very small - just bunk beds basically. Felt like the kitchen set up was in place for people who brought a car's worth of equipment (no oil or spices laying around, or a way to make coffee) but all good.
Right next to the castle and Goatfell, convenient for physically active tourists. We did just fine without a car plan because the bus was nearby and Brodick within walking distance.

GermanyPrice per night is a little too high.
Shore Lodge is a clean and comfortable place to stay in Brodick. Its just 5 minutes far from Brodick Castle and the starting point of the Goatfell trail is right behind the building. Staff was exceptionally friendly and even gave me a lift back to the ferry terminal. Will definitely come back there again.

United KingdomWe were disappointed that the dishwasher had not been replaced and that the old drying room had been closed off.All our wet gear was in the hall although the recent improvements to this area meant that there was enough space to hang our jackets etc.
We have stayed at the lodge every year for the past 10 years now and like the location and size of the accommodation.

United KingdomI didn’t like the size of the bedroom, very cramped with nowhere to put your kit/equipment other than a few clothes hooks! I had to use the bunk bed below. Dread to think if I was sharing with a second person! Wasn’t a fan of how close the door to the edge of the bed. When opening the fire door there was approximately a 15cm gap. Getting in and out of the room required a bit of manoeuvring. And if you have filled the room with backpacks, boots etc you sometimes struggled to get the door open. The window locking mechanism was faulty and could easily be opened from the outside. All the other doors in the hallway on fire doors closers are very loud, slam instead of closing slowly. Incorrectly installed door closers cause this.
Best parts of the property are it’s got a well stocked kitchen and massive drying room, essential for the Arran weather/outdoor activities. Bed was comfy and room was warm. Showers are excellent. Great location.
