Friendly staff and good food but pity about the room

The room, though spacious, had a small window with a terrible view looking out over storage containers. Couldn’t open bathroom windows and pipes rumbled when toilet was flushed. A door banging closed nearby was an irritant at times.

Location close to sea front and town centre was ideal. Friendly staff made our stay very pleasant. Though booked in for bed and breakfast the food was excellent and there was enough choice that we ate dinner in the hotel every night. The hotel was in the process of changing its menu during our stay and the new menu was financially a better deal. Fine weather meant we could make use of the secluded garden at the back of the hotel.

The room was particularly warm with a large hot water pipe in the bathroom which meant the room was hot even with the window open. This was not a problem as the car park outside was quiet.

The hotel although old Is traditional decorated and furnished which makes the hotel be different from many others. We loved it and thought it was comfortable and clean.

In keeping with the property there is no lift however when you have been allocated a room up in the roof it is quite difficult to carry your luggage up( and down)the final very narrow staircase. So if mobility is an issue or you have a large suitcase as I did ensure you request a room on a lower floor before you go!!

Friendly and quick check in. Room was a great size and very comfortable. Hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities available. The decor of the hotel is definitely in keeping with the style of the building with lovely old oak panelling throughout. Can't comment on the evening dining options as we are out but breakfast was great with a good variety of options and no problem when I wanted to make a few changes to the menu options! Staff all friendly and efficient. It is also only a 10 min walk into town where there are lots of eating out options.

The cosy room is small with no room to move about comfortably. I would suggest it is a single bed and not a double bed. If you are used to a king size don’t book this room

The stairs were a nightmare, especially the ones up to the attic rooms. Don't understand why they hike prices up for Racing days, they should know they will sell on such a busy weekend very naughty, they all do the same.

Breakfast was very nice, but you had to ask for everything you wanted, a separate table for juice & cereals etc would have been better. Evening meal was also very nice, everything cooked fresh to order. Plenty of choice on menu.

Cosy, clean room. Great shower - and excellent breakfast. So refreshing to order breakfast rather than being faced with a dried up buffet. The food came quickly and was good quality.

The only issue we had was the location of our room. Felt like we were in the attic. We both have heart issues and climbing lots of stairs was a struggle. perhaps this needs to be a warning? Don't know how a elderly couple would cope with it.

Beautiful hotel. Our room was huge, spotless & comfortable. The Staff were very friendly and informative. Restaurant served lovely food.

Service could have been better. Had to ask for an ironing board and iron three time times and finally went and got it myself. Was told they were short staffed. Not my problem. Also 42 steps to our upgraded room. No elevator.

Breakfasts were excellent. Full Scottish breakfast served very hot and fresh. Room was excellent with a couple of issues. From the bed to bathroom was awkward as you had to over a fairly high step with led to a fairly low slanted ceiling.

We actually could not see the need for any improvement!!

Of all our travels, this was a welcome change to our recent boutique hotel stays. The service, the room, and breakfast could not have been better. Somewhat quirky, but that added to the pleasure.
