Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThis isn't a dislike, but more a share. For some reason, I thought the room I booked faced the garden. It actually looked directly into the driveway and the room entry is from the parking lot. It isn't a big deal since we were there for a short time (arriving around 5 pm and taking off the next morning). But anyone booking the larger family room might want to clarify which room he/she would get if this important.
The beds were very comfortable and the room was very pleasant. The proprietor was really welcoming, warm, and funny. Also, it was quiet even though we were super close to the restaurant and to RSC. On this accounts, I recommend Salamander Inn highly.

AustraliaOn quite a busy road and our room was at the front. We had ear plugs so not a problem.
Very clean, family room spacious, great onsite parking and located very close to the centre. Comfy beds too. A lovely outlook across the road to the park.

United StatesI don't really have any comments here about things I didn't like. Just be aware: the street can be a bit busy at times (not at night--it was very quiet then) and the Salamander no longer serves breakfast.
This is my second stay at Salamander--I also stayed here in 2019. I love the location. The train station and major Stratford upon Avon attractions are within easy walking distance. The new innkeeper--daughter of the previous owners--was welcoming and friendly. She had undertaken some major renovations, and the Salamander looks amazing. The beds are very comfortable, the rooms are nice and airy, and everything was clean and up-to-date. Alex (innkeeper) provided helpful tips about where to eat and how to see actors after the RSC production! There is a small park across the street from Salamander where you can hang out on a hot day or if someone in your party is not as into seeing all the Shakespeare sights as you are! I will definitely stay here again next time I come to Stratford upon Avon.

AustraliaAlex is a fantastic host with a wonderful knowledge of Stratford Upon Avon and the Cotswolds'. The rooms were beautifully decorated, clean, comfortable and spacious. Lovely tea and coffee facilities with yummy biscuits. Centrally located in the heart of Stratford but very quiet. 5 minute walk to the town center, lots of lovely shops, eateries and pubs. Easy drive to the beautiful Cotswolds and Alex recommended several towns to visit and places to stop for breakfast and lunch. Our stay exceeded all expectations.

NorwayThe host Alex was very friendly and helpful. The room I stayed in (I was upgraded) was SO clean and fresh. Comfortable and good facilities - like the complimentary tea and coffee. Added bonus was the fact the tv had access to Netflix. I just wanted to relax in the evening after a long day travelling so it was nice to relax and unwind.

United StatesNothing. All was good. My only suggestion is that if you are staying during the warm weeks and are a light sleeper, you may want to have a room without a street exposure. With the windows closed, there is no street noise.
The room was spacious and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable. The hostess, Alex, was extremely helpful and went out of her way to make sure we had what we needed. She also assisted us on 3 occasions with problems we encountered.

United KingdomThe guesthouse is very well located near numerous cafes for breakfast and restaurants for dinner. The hostess was enthusiastic and informative which made us feel very welcome. The property was bright, fresh and clean. The room was comfortable with free WiFi and Netflix if required. The tea tray had a nice selection of teas, coffee, hot chocolate with delicious biscuits . It was good value for money especially as it had free parking which was appreciated. We really enjoyed our stay

The rooms were fitted perfectly! My room was exceptionally clean, bright, comfortable, and quiet. It was close to all the important historical sites and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The bed was comfy and wonderful. I wanted to stay longer it was so nice, but I came for Shakespeare, not for the room!

AustraliaNothing, though be aware that there are stairs to the rooms though Alex is more than happy (insistent!) on carrying your luggage up them for you.
Recently refurbished so very clean and tidy. On site car parking. Very friendly and informative host (Alex). Location was very good for all the main attractions in Stratford, although you are probably better off driving to Anne Hathaway’s house, since it is a good 20 minute walk and the site was convenient local (Paid) parking.
