Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe small brown mini loaves were extremely hard, possibly stale. Some soft rolls would be nice.
I don't eat cooked breakfast but there was enough to keep me happy. I was glad to see yoghurt and some fresh fruit salad. Perhaps some more fruit?

United KingdomNo real complaints, to be honest. I did however noticed quite a few snags in my room 116, like the wardrobe top wasn't jointed together properly, the toilet seat wouldn't stay up, and the paint work could have been a bit more tidy around the edges. But I work in construction, so I naturally look for these things at the end of a job. No harsh feelings the room was lovely! Also I was put off from drinking the bottled water as £5 did seem alot for a drink. The teas that were supplied were very nice though :)
Breakfast was the highlight of my weekend, gotta love that bacon 🥓 , and the bread was so soft I could sleep on it. Staff were really friendly, and informative. Rooms we're clean, and overall the building had wonderful interior. I would definitely stay at St James again, if I should ever return to Nottingham. I will recommend this hotel to whom ever wishes to visit Nottinghamshire. Thank you for a pleasant stay :) That bacon though :p

United KingdomPossibly the speed of one of the lifts, and some of the noise outside in the early hours, although little you could do about that since in warm weather the windows need to be open

United KingdomShower over bath (not full-size bath) wasn't a separate unit but connected to the taps. Taps weren't mixer taps so took some fiddling around to get the shower temp to be right for us.
Friendly staff at reception. Room was comfortable and clean. Lovely toiletries provided. Good location only 5 mins walk from slab Square.

United KingdomComfortable, clean, friendly & helpful staff and superb breakfasts. The location is very handy for the city centre and is just 1 minute walk from the castle entrance. Plenty of pubs nearby including the famous Trip to Jerusalem just 5 minutes down the road. 15 minutes walk from the station. A great place to stay in Nottingham.

United KingdomUnfortunately we had disruptive guests on the 6th floor who came back after a night of drinking and continued the party in the corridor singing, shouting, potentially inviting other people to stay over and banging on each other’s doors. This went on for about 45 minutes. I sent a message through the website and my husband tried to contact staff using the phone but we didn’t get through to anyone. I understand the hotel doesn’t have 24 hour reception staff but unfortunately we couldn’t find anyone to make a complaint to. Slightly disappointed and we didn’t get quite the relaxing night’s sleep we hoped for.
Beautiful lobby, room was lovely and clean, comfortable beds. Breakfast was hot and restaurant nice and quiet at 7.30am. Reception staff were friendly on check in. Location good for getting to and from the train station.

United KingdomThe decor was very dated - all blacks, purples and silver. The hotel is next to a multistorey car park which is a little dull to look at (but not dreadful), but the real problem is that the space between the car park and the hotel acts as an echo chamber for revellers
A nice room in a quiet part of town. A couple of good places to eat and drink locally. Next to Nottingham Castle and the Old Trip to Jerusalem pub

United KingdomRoom 519. The bathroom could do with modernising, the step over into bath to use the shower is slightly awkward and no railings to hold onto. Would be better if it was a walk in shower than bath, would maximise space better and easier access for all guests, would be very difficult if limited mobility/or for those who struggle to step over. You need to provide hygiene bags as well if possible.
Good hotel, ideal location, friendly staff and bar open on the evening for a wee nightcap. Good facilities in room, would recommend. Pleased you offer twin rooms and could accommodate our stay. My friend really enjoyed her first stay with you and impressed by the first impression of the reception decor and facilities on offer.

He was attentive, polite and very professional. Breakfast was excellent and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall our experience at St James was great and we would be happy to stay again in future.
